The Burnaby Association for Community Inclusion provides a range of supports and services to people with developmental disabilities. Our Home and Community services is looking for a support worker. Adult Support Workers at BACI support people to lead a good life. This role works with people with developmental disabilities to explore dreams and passions providing opportunities for people to connect with friends, family and community, to find places of belonging in community, have a home they view as a haven and support people to work towards a balanced life which is healthy and safe.


This position requires skills or experience recognizing, analyzing and responding to potential emergency situations such as communication in the form of aggression, observation and evaluation of current plans are shared to enhance support strategies, ability to implement safety plans and maintain a calm and supportive environment in high stress situations, Ability to use non-violent crisis intervention strategies and behaviour management techniques.

SALARY:
$26.09 per hour

HOURS:
37.5 hours per week Schedule Sunday - Thursday 8AM- 3:30PM

Responsibilities:

  • Works one to one supporting a person in his staffed home
  • Ensuring that individuals are connected to friends and family.
  • Providing individuals with the opportunity to make meaningful choices
  • Encouraging and recognizing individuals' contributions
  • Ensuring that individuals are safe and to promote their health and wellbeing
- assist individuals to gain knowledge and experiences to enhance their independence and/or ability to participate in their community.

Qualifications:

  • Class 5 BC DL
  • The ability to work effectively both as a team member and independently is essential
  • Experience and specialized training related to autism and/or challenging behaviours is an asset
  • Knowledge and ability to use alternative communication systems would be an asset
  • Knowledge of principles of Person Centered Thinking and Planning preferred
  • Working knowledge of computers/mobile apps is necessary
  • Diploma or degree in Social
