Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH), the Public Health Physicians work with multiple stakeholders both internal and external to government such as other divisions within Alberta Health and other ministries within the Government of Alberta, Alberta Health Services, and Indigenous Services Canada, First Nations and Inuit Health Branch.

These roles are key in advising on the need for legislation, policies, standards and practices affecting the population's health by providing public health leadership, medical expertise, clinical knowledge, and skill in evaluation to the department and other agencies.
