The
Intellectual Property (IP) Paralegal will work closely with Medisca's legal partners and internal departments. You will provide legal and administrative support in Medisca's legal matters including Intellectual Property ("IP").

The opportunity:

  • Take charge of various files related to IP including patents, trademarks, copyright, and industrial designs
  • Manage annuities docket, including communications with internal IP teams and external vendor.
  • Support IP matter intake process; coordinate periodic IP review meetings with outside counsel.
  • Support communications with outside counsel including handling routine administrative tasks to support IP filings and filing processes; coordinate collection of inventor assignments and declarations, and power of attorneys, when necessary.
  • Support cease and desist letter activity.
  • Prepare periodic reports related to Medisca's IP portfolio.
  • Oversee IP management system administration and serve as legal point of contact.
  • Support IP licensing activities; review IPrelated contracts.
  • Support IP protection activities; review marketing materials and IP guidelines.

Skills, knowledge and abilities:

  • DEC in paralegal techniques or academic equivalent.
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years' experience in IP, in a law firm, an inhouse legal department, a consulting firm, or comparable experience elsewhere;
  • Knowledge of Canadian and American IP law, an asset;
  • Manage multiple priorities in an organized manner
  • Strong listening skills, very customer focused and professional
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative with little supervision
  • Detail oriented and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook, Teams and Excel) required
  • Excellent communication skills; fluent French and English (oral & written) required. This position interfaces with outside legal counsel and external vendors.
