Engineering Technician I or II

The District of Summerland has an excellent opportunity for a highly skilled Engineering Technician I or II. This position provides technical support to District departments, manages infrastructure improvement projects, coordinates infrastructure capacity analysis assessments, reviews design submissions, develops conceptual designs of municipal services, prepares technical reports, and assists in establishing programs, policies and procedures relating to operating functions of the department. The Engineering Technician will be drawn on to coordinate electrical service requests, assist with managing utility GIS systems and help with contracts and procurement.

The successful candidate will have strong organizational and interpersonal skills, be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and exercise considerable courtesy, tact, and diplomacy. The applicant must have knowledge and experience with electrical engineering design fundamentals, Civil3D or relevant AutoCAD software, surveying and data acquisition, GIS, MS Office, and related software, as well as knowledge of civil engineering principles, terminology, practices and techniques relating to municipal infrastructure. The applicant must also have knowledge and experience with project management, municipal budgetary practices including preparation of cost estimates and experience interpreting bylaws.

Required training and experience include:
  • Senior Secondary School education supplemented by completion of two-year program in electrical engineering or civil engineering technology or related field.
  • Valid BC Driver's License — Class 5
Engineering Technician I
  • Minimum of three years related municipal engineering experience.
  • Eligibility for membership and actively pursuing an Applied Science Technologist Certificate with ASTTBC.
Engineering Technician II
  • Minimum of five years related municipal engineering experience.
  • Applied Science Technologist Certificate with ASTTBC.
This is a CUPE position, and the full rate of pay is $44.00 (Eng Tech I) or $45.42 (Eng Tech II) per hour along with a competitive benefits package and pension.
