Full-time Position

The Approaches to Community Wellbeing is a regional resource to 31 First Nations Communities, providing expertise, support, services, and programming in public health to the region. The program assists communities in developing, implementing, and monitoring their Approaches to Community Wellbeing.

The Healthy Living section of the Model focuses on Preventing Infectious Diseases, aiming to prevent infection spread and manage reportable diseases.

Reporting to the Preventing Infectious Diseases Manager, the Preventing Infectious Diseases Nurse will oversee clinical infectious diseases activities.

Requirements:

  • Experience in public/community health nursing, program planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Knowledge and/or experience with health/communicable disease programs, including TB, sexually transmitted or bloodborne infections, MRSA, and other health issues in First Nations communities
  • Understanding of native culture, government health policies, and regulations applicable to aboriginal people
  • Strong communication skills in English, including public speaking and presentations
  • Proficiency in keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheets, and graphics. Familiarity with Epi-Info and office equipment operation is beneficial
  • Fluency in one of the Sioux Lookout Zone First Nations dialects is advantageous
  • Duties:
  • Coordinate and monitor clinical infectious disease control activities
  • Assist with outbreak management
  • Provide clinical expertise to the Preventing Infectious Diseases Program and community health care providers
  • Participate in TB Control Program work plan development and reporting
  • Orient primary health care providers to the Preventing Infectious Disease Program
  • Advocate for clients and communities to improve health determinants
  • Establish strong relationships with community health leadership and staff to enhance capacity in infectious disease prevention and management
  • Support timely reporting on infectious diseases epidemiology and prevention activities
  • Conduct quality surveillance on data management and operations
  • Travel to communities for case and contact management, outbreak control, advocacy, and education
