We are currently looking to hire a:

Community Health Ambassador - Vaccine Ambassadors Reaching out in Scarborough (VAROS)
6 Full-time (35 hours/ week) / Contract (Until March 31st 2024)

Manager Special Projects


Position Summary:


The incumbent will provide culturally specific community outreach, education, information and promote awareness and safety regarding the COVID-19, Flu and other life course vaccines in South Scarborough.


Key areas of responsibility:

  • Share COVID19, Flu and life course vaccinerelated information to community members and local businesses.
  • Inform and educate community members on COVID19 and Flu public health measures and reinforce provincial and regional guidelines for Infection control.
  • Educate the community about the COVID19 Flu and other vaccines and provide relevant resources.
  • Organize Vaccine information sessions, and distribute resources through tabling sessions/events, and presentations at local community venues, religious venues and businesses.
  • Dispel culturally specific myths/misinformation through culturally and languagespecific education and information sessions.
  • Promote and educate the community on vaccination programs.
  • Engage with local businesses, community groups, religious organizations, and respond to community members' queries and concerns regarding COVID19, Flu, and other Vaccines and provide strategies and resources to reduce and mitigate the spread of various viruses.
  • Provide guidance on how to properly wear a mask and distribute masks to those who need them.
  • Conduct virtual wellness checks on community members impacted by seasonal infections
  • Refer community members to appropriate resources and supports within the community.

Educational and/or Professional Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to clearly convey information in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain messaging.
  • Bilingual verbal and written communication skills in English, as well as
    one of the following languages: Tamil, Bengali, Swahili, Arabic, Tagalog or Cantonese.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in making an impact in the community through service, leadership, and education.
  • Ability to motivate a sometimes unreceptive, uninformed or misinformed diverse population, including business owners to help mitigate the spread of COVID19, Flu and other seasonal viruses.
  • A high degree of conflict resolution using appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to reduce tension or conflict.
  • Sensitivity to people from different socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Selfdirected, with a positive attitude and able to work independently or with a team.
  • Flexible with the ability to prioritize and multitask

Level of Experience:

− Two years of experience working with marginalized populations using a community development model including meaningful outreach and engagement experience.
− Experience working with or involvement with the Scarborough community
− Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suit - Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint

Significant Working Conditions
− Flexibility of hours - occasional evening or weekend work will be required
− Flexible working sites - working in the community
