Basic Function This position is responsible for assisting supervisory staff in creating compelling guest experiences and ensuring the effective daily operations of the retail unit. Group Leaders must provide leadership on a front-line basis and act as role models to the entire Guest Experience Division.

Responsibilities:

  • Employees assigned to this position perform a variety of duties including, but not restricted to, the following:
  • Assist supervisory staff in ensuring that work assignments are properly completed.
  • Oversee the Toronto Zoo gift shops and ensure smooth operations.
  • Ensure that schedules for nonpermanent staff lunches and breaks are properly adhered to.
  • Ensure that workstations in their area of responsibility are properly covered.
  • Ensure that all workstations are cleaned on a daily basis. This includes, but is not limited to, behind cash tills, gift shop sales floor, warehouse and receiving areas.
  • Ensure that the area Supervisor is made aware of any operational problems that occur.
  • Make Supervisor aware of the need for repairs, replacement of equipment or replenishing of supplies as required.
  • May be required to assist in determining the levels of service and staffing requirements in the public service areas.
  • Assist in ensuring that all cash stations have proper cash floats, kiosks are properly opened, closed and merchandised, and that retail stores are properly merchandised.
  • Process cash/credit refunds and voids.
  • Answer guest's inquires and assists in the initial handling of guest's complaints. Provide polite, courteous and friendly customer service. Remain approachable and provide memorable experiences for our guests.
  • Perform, or relieves in, the carrying out of assignments within their work area as required.
  • Assist Supervisor in reviewing daily work assignments and determining any special requirements for the day.
  • Make suggestions to the Supervisor on ways to make improvements to the work area.
  • Act as leaders in the stores and role models for team work and promoting team inclusiveness.
  • Submit written reports regarding occurrences happening on their shift as required.
  • Report all accidents and safety hazards to the area Supervisor immediately, with attention to WHIMIS legislation and SDS guidelines.
  • Work assigned schedule, including weekends, shifts and holidays.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the area Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Min. one year of experience at the Toronto Zoo or in a related field preferred.
  • Requires a sound background in cash handling and balancing.
  • Must possess proven leadership skills.
  • Must have proven organizational ability.
  • Must be able to deal effectively, but in a courteous manner, with both staff and guests.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, using English language.
  • Must be able to produce brief but comprehensive written reports.
  • A nonprobationary, full 'G' driver's license, along with a good driving record (if required to operate a Zoo vehicle) would be an asset.
  • Must be able and willing to work shifts, weekends, and holidays.
