SCOPE

Reporting to the Associate Vice-President, Development, the incumbent is responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of prospective Primary Gift donors for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies.

They serve as the primary relationship manager, working with senior University staff and senior volunteers who interact directly with the prospect/donor to achieve strategic priorities.

They develop and manage the primary gifts program to obtain transformational gifts for the University.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies of gifts at the $1 million plus level.
  • Provide concise, cost effective gift planning information to a broad network of donors and prospects.
  • Build and manage a vibrant and proactive portfolio of prospective donors, focusing on building sustainable relationships.
  • Maintain a personal prospect/donor portfolio of up to 50 constituents who have given or are targeted to give at the $1 million plus level; develop an annual plan for portfolio, including the timely recording of substantive interaction, planned moves, solicitations and tactical stewardship activities.
  • Advise the Associate Vice-President, Vice-President, University Advancement, President, Chancellor and Chair of the Board on Principal Gift strategies and priorities; Prepare appropriate briefings and solicitations materials to ensure successful cultivation and solicitation of prospects.
  • Partner with other stakeholders and department team members as appropriate to ensure high quality effective collaboration with regard to prospect clearance, appropriate stewardship and recognition of donors; collaborate with colleagues to develop strategies to build the primary gifts pipeline and maximize its growth.
  • Oversee the primary gift pipeline strategy meetings with senior staff and key stakeholders to advance the primary gifts portfolio and achieve established goals.
  • Interact directly with primary gift prospects and donors, university senior leadership, and leadership volunteers.
  • Partner with various units at university to align primary gift prospects with their respective priorities in order to raise exceptional gifts for the University.
  • Develop a universitywide process in conjunction with other senior university leadership to identify transformational priorities for consideration by primary gift prospects.
  • Attend community events for the purpose of building/strengthening relationships with donors and prospects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field and up to 10 years of progressive fundraising experience in direct personal primary, major and planned gift solicitations preferably in the field of higher education.
  • Track record of securing gifts at the $1 million plus level.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing strategic partnership plans in a large organization.
  • Familiarity with current issues and challenges facing postsecondary education.
  • Demonstrated experience working with senior executive staff and senior volunteers.
  • Proven success developing and implementing strategic plans and meeting objectives.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communication required.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse work environment.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills, including writing and editing funding proposals.
  • Very good knowledge (Level 5) of spoken and written English and very good knowledge (Level 5) of written and spoken French, in order to conduct effective meetings with a diverse range of constituents.
