Project Context
Lions Gate Hospital New Paul Myers Tower Project
The Lions Gate Hospital New Paul Myers Tower Project (New PMT) is a Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) construction project that will deliver the addition of a new 6-storey acute care facility on the Lions Gate Hospital campus with the goal of replacing obsolete facilities and improving inpatient medical, perioperative and support services.
The scope of the new PMT includes:
- Replacement of 108 acute medical and surgical inpatient beds on Levels 4 to 6 from the existing Paul Myers South tower.
- Relocation of the existing perioperative areas located on Level 2 of the Northern Expansion building to include 8 new ORs and a new 39bay Preoperative and Postoperative care area including anesthesia intervention and isolation rooms.
- Replacement of the Medical Device Reprocessing Department on Level 3 Mechanical and electrical services required to support the facility at the basement, interstitial and penthouse levels.
- An entry level area that includes a mix of patient care, staff amenities and outpatient care services.
- Additional support services and public amenities, including a rooftop garden on Level
- Vehicular arrival, shortterm parking and oneway circulation.
- Renovation of Surgery Reception and 6 Minor Treatment areas on Level 2 in the existing facility.
- Pedestrian circulation between the new and existing facilitates at Levels 0, 1 and 2.
Project Background:

The Vocera Communications System_ is an advanced communication system that enables instant hands-free and wireless communication controlled by one button and voice commands, allowing staff to continue to care for patients as they are communicating with others throughout the department. The system has the ability to integrate with the Masimo patient monitoring system, the TeleTracking Patient Tracking System as well as the Rauland-5 Enterprise Nurse Call system.
The duties of the position of Senior Project Manager will include the management of the LGH Vocera Communications System Project implementation scope of work.
This project will include a two phased approach:
Phase - implementation of the Vocera Communications System throughout the existing LGH campus which includes specific early adopter department and units in the Paul Myers Tower and Northern Expansion building.
Calls flows will be developed for acute medicine, surgical services, neurosciences, high acuity unit, intensive care unit, labour and delivery, and surgical inpatient unit to support this work.
A wifi upgrade to Vocera grade wifi will be required in these specific areas of communication as part of the Phase 1 early adopter implementation scope.
Service Required
Scope of Work:
- The Project Manager must be able to manage multiple key stakeholders groups including technical services, Clinical business stakeholders, PDHIS / IMITS teams (as applicable) and vendors teams (TELUS, Vocera). Project reporting in VCH Steering and PHSA Project Management Office are required. Budget management, project plan, risk and issue management along with all other aspects of project management are required.
- Engage with PQTO Methodology and project management deliverables, such as project status reporting, budget management, telecommunications vendor management, manage testing strategy.
- Develop detailed project plans and understand key milestone dates with Stakeholders, Tech Services, Vendor and PDHIS / IMITS.
- Create Project Charter, Training Strategy and Communications Strategy documents.
- Engage with PQTO, PDHIS / IMITS key stakeholders and Business stakeholder groups to design and develop Vocera and Nurse Call flows
- Engage with Tech Service and Wireless Project Managers to implement the Vocera server and WIFI infrastructure and Raulaund5 Enterprise server infrastructure required to support both projects.
- Conduct monthly LGH Vocera Project steering committee meeting, develop project steering committee materials and monthly status reports.
- Build call flows, address lists and groups to support care.
- Add new address book entries in groups and new Wireless access points and MAC addresses and locations.
- Implementation of the latest version of the Vocera Communications software and badge firmware.
- Train and deploy the Vocera SmartBadges for the LGH resources.
Consultant Qualifications
- Postsecondary education in Health Information Science, Computer Science or related degree.
- Minimum of 10 years IT Project Management experience.
- Experience implementing Health Care IT implementations in an acute care hospital in BC working with clinical, business and technical stakeholders and external vendors is preferred.
