GHD is hiring for a Hydrotechnical Water Specialist to be based our of the Vancouver, BC office.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

Role purpose

This role will be expected to work competently in the following areas:

Working on a broad range of civil infrastructure, which may include dams, weirs, fishways, stormwater drainage, linear infrastructure and mine water management schemes; Working on a diverse range of projects based locally, interstate and internationally; Undertaking complex numerical modelling studies of various types of water infrastructure to facilitate impact assessments, risk assessments, concept designs, and regulatory compliance; and Undertaking business development activities and project bidding tasks.

Key duties

The role includes but is not limited to the following tasks:

Establish relationships with other members of the Surface Water group and the wider GHD hydrology and hydraulic community. Conduct hydraulic modelling tasks within allocated budget hours and timeframe. Achieve utilisation targets set by the Business Group Leader - Surface Water. Achieve safety targets. Punctually in completing essential business information (timesheets, etc). Actively support the preparation of proposal that involve hydrology and hydraulic modelling. Actively seek to develop consulting skills through local networking / development / learning sessions. Coordinate and monitor specific team tasks when requested. Pursue professional development opportunities.

What you will bring to the team:

Bachelor's degree of Engineering, preferably with Honors in a related field. Hydraulic and hydrologic modelling experience, working on a range of projects, involving Computational Fluid Dynamics, major road upgrades, bridge developments, drainage design, dam breach modelling, water resource management, and water balance modelling. Understanding of relevant guidelines and methodology related to hydrology and hydraulic packages including but not limited to ARR2019, QUDM, Austroads. Strong understanding of hydrological principles, hydraulic modeling techniques, and GIS applications Proficiency in a range of software packages, including TUFLOW, Star CCM+, XPRAFTS, Storm Injector, GoldSim, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, ArcGIS and QGIS Experience with other high-end software such as CFD (computational fluid dynamics), programming packages (Python or R) or civil design packages (12D/ Civil3D/ AutoCAD) Sound knowledge of analysing geographic data, hydraulic principles, and assess flood risk, develop floodplain maps, and recommend mitigation strategies. Generate floodplain maps, inundation maps, and other visualisations to communicate flood risks. Provide technical support and guidance to the internal and external clients on flood modeling and mitigation strategies.
