What Would You Do?

The Category Buyer will obtain the best possible price, quality, service, and value on all items & services within designated purchasing material categories while maintaining material inventories at fiscally responsible levels.

Determine optimal inventory levels - maximize inventory turns and maximize material availability ensuring order demands are met to customer expectation.

Assist in the development of procurement and purchasing strategy to achieve continuous improvements.

Primary duties and responsibilities of this position are outlined below:

  • Establishes and maintains strong and trusting relationships with suppliers to ensure a stable supply chain.
  • Maintain indepth familiarity with the technical aspects of the goods or services responsible for purchasing.
  • Monitor supplier performance for service, quality, and on time delivery and deal with pricing, returns and credit issues.
  • Liaison with suppliers with respect to communication, and execution of decisions made within the company.
  • Analyze and review all parameters as necessary for purchasing systems to function effectively and optimally.
  • Create, review and follow up on purchase orders ensuring required expectations are met.
  • Maintain files related to purchase orders and purchasing; including those pertaining to vendors, bids, quotes, and other correspondence.
  • Accurate and timely maintenance of item parameter information in MRP Mapics Purchasing System.
  • Return nonconforming materials for credit in a timely manner.
  • Present documentation to accounting, logistics, and receiving for incoming shipments.
  • Other duties as assigned

What Do You Bring?

  • Business Degree or equivalent schooling and experience. (SCMP)
  • 5 years purchasing experience preferable in furniture industry or manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of international furniture standards as FSC, CARB, ASTM, PSI, etc.
  • Knowledge of product specifications and supplier standards.
  • Knowledge of bills of materials (BOM).
  • Experience in materials, purchasing systems, scheduling, inventory management and control functions.
  • Strong conflict resolution, negotiation and objection handling skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience and skill in establishing and maintaining collaborative partnerships and working relationships.
  • Effective deadline management and project management skills.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality and accountability.
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization and execution skills.
  • Able to creatively and strategically overcome internal challenges or obstacles.
  • Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong organization, planning, analytical and financial analysis skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Experience in root causes analysis process & the establishment of corrective actions.
  • Experience in cost benefit and ROI analysis.
  • Knowledge of purchasing practices and procedures.
  • Experience with MRP, AS400, Mapics/Powerlink, Microsoft Office advanced Excel.
  • Background in accounting/finance an asset.
