JOB SUMMARY:


As a valued member of the team, the Personal Support Worker demonstrates a commitment to resident safety by providing quality care in accordance with organization's vision and mission.


The Personal Support Worker is accountable to the Director of Wellness for the provision of hospitality style dining services, support with activities of daily living and housekeeping services as assigned utilizing customer service principles that strive to provide exceptional service at all times.

This role may also assist with recreation program support in varying locations.


The Personal Support Worker is required to perform their duties in a manner consistent with the core values, ensure resident safety, and demonstrate customer service excellence.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Carries out general cleaning duties and routines including scraping, washing, stacking, and dishes as required;
Maintains a safe and clean environment for residents utilizing rotational cleaning practices & infection control principles;
Completes laundry and housekeeping duties as outlined by assignments;
Maintains and uses all equipment in a safe manner and reports any problems to supervisor;
Completes special cleaning assignments as assigned.

Participates in admission orientation and the transfer process of residents as directed;
Works with other departmental personnel to ensure continuity of care;
Cooperates with and assists all outside agencies that work in the home;
Answers all resident call bells and door alarms promptly and provides courteous service;
Completes all aspects of resident care as outlined in the plan of care and care assignment;
Communicates with Director of Wellness about problems related to resident care and/or safety;
Transports residents to and from their rooms, recreational activities, health office and dining room as required.

Answers phone calls utilizing the prescribed script & ensures that messages are communicated effectively to marketing team members or Administration as applicable;
Notifies the Executive Director / Director of Wellness of any team members/resident incidents and completes documentation as required;
Ensures that own personal grooming is appropriate and uniform/dress is clean, tidy and according to dress code;
Maintains all areas of the building in a tour ready manner;
Greet all visitors in a positive and supportive manner requesting if they need assistance of any kind;
Deals tactfully and courteously with residents, residents' families and reports any concerns / complaints to the supervisor;
Promotes and maintains positive communication and relationships with all team members;
Demonstrates personal attributes and communication skills that foster customer satisfaction at all times.

Advises supervisor or designate immediately of all team members incidents that may result in an Occupational Accident Claim, any concerns with the physical plant, incidents or injuries and completes required reports;
Follows all health and safety policies and procedures. Works safely to reduce the risk of injury to self, co-workers, and residents;
Wears personal protective equipment as designated;
Maintains a clean, safe environment for residents utilizing infection control principles;
Practices safe food handling techniques throughout all aspects of food preparation and service;
Responsible for all aspects of hospitality style dining service, including table/tray presentation, preparation and serving of beverages and accompaniments, serving of food;
Assists with the preparation and presentation of food under the direction of the Chef;
Maintains a sound working knowledge of their role & responsibilities during all Emergency situations when working different shifts;
Participates in drills to prepare for emergencies and attends all education sessions in relation to emergency preparedness.

Work in accordance with the organization's Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act;
Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to work independently and/or as a member of a team;
Current CPR training and guest attendant training recommended;
Experience working with seniors and knowledge of the aging process;
Effective verbal and written English communication skills required.

EDUCATION:

Personal Support Worker Certification.
