Summary:


Reporting directly to the Fort McKay Group of Companies HSE Superintendent; the Transportation Safety Specialist must have extensive knowledge of Transportation Safety Legislation and how it enhances the safety of the other road users and your drivers.

They are also responsible for day to day activities involving the overall Transportation Management of Drivers, safety, compliance and training functions as it relates to all of the Company's business units (emphasis on Transportation, DOT and provincial OHS Legislation).


Key Focuses:

  • Assist with the development, implementation and monitoring of the Corporate Strategic Safety Plan
  • Enforce, perform, assist in and coordinate Corporate Safety Training, Driver Training and the Compliance Program
  • Ability to travel to various locations
  • Ability to participate in and facilitate Ministry of Transportation facility audits/inspections and prepare required reports
  • Write precise and detailed policies and procedures, investigation reports, proposals, articles and statistical analyses from a fleet safety perspective
  • Provide written advice and/ or instruction on various topics to different levels of staff in the organization
  • Analytical and problem solving skills to identify problem situations and resolve fleet safety related matters in a politically sensitive environment
  • Ability to respond clearly to inquiries from Supervisors, Employers and Committees Evaluate exactly what your current compliance situation is and provide direction where there may be compliance issues

Knowledge and Requirements:

  • Grade twelve (12) Diploma or GED equivalent is required
  • CSTS and OSSA are required
  • Valid Construction Safety Officer certificate issued by the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA) or another recognized institution is required
  • Background and understanding of National Safety Code is required
  • OH&S Certificate is considered an asset
  • Retention of a valid class five (5) driver's license and clean drivers abstract is required

  • Five (5) years' experience as a Transportation Safety Professional, with emphasis on Transportation/DOT, Provincial Legislation and Training
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
This is a full time position located in Edmonton, AB.

Work schedule:
Monday to Friday; 8 hours per day
