The Opportunity

Aecon is dedicated to a comprehensive, collaborative, Canada–wide approach to Indigenous engagement. We build relationships with Indigenous communities on a foundation of trust, respect, and understanding by acting as a responsible and respectful business partner, working side by side with community leaders and members, while creating and nurturing meaningful and beneficial opportunities and relationships.
Reporting to the VP of Indigenous Relations, the Manager of Indigenous Relations will manage activities supporting Aecon's construction operations and support the initiatives of Aecon's corporate Indigenous Relations Team including Reconciliation Action Plan implementation.
Responsible for managing key initiatives and deliverables of Aecon's Indigenous Relations program at a Naitonal Level. including working closely with operational project teams on related strategies and continuing to foster relationships with Indigenous leaders and communities.
You will champion a balanced and effective advocacy to position Aecon for success in developing new business partnerships within the Indigenous communities through trust and cultural respect.
In this role you will be responsible for business development efforts, manage Indigenous Vendor procurement and Project Manage all Indigenous bids for the Indigenous Relations Team.

What You'll Do

Proactively develop and manage working relationships and partnership initiatives with Indigenous communities and businesses. Lead internal collaboration and alignment of communication as related to Indigenous business community. Track and monitor the progress of strategies and initiatives against key performance indicators. Metrics and critical measurements Identify, research, and propose opportunities for strategic relationships. Interface with functional teams and construction operations to develop Indigenous procurement, training, apprenticeship, and employment opportunities. Participate and foster relationship-building, including attendance at conferences, boards, and/or other meaningful activities. Provide advice, develop and author Indigenous engagement plans supporting bid preparations and new projects, with consideration for operational objectives, existing relationships, lessons learned. Oversight of Indigenous participation plans, associated communications, and reporting. Act as liaison to multiple Aecon functional groups including procurement, human resources, labor relations, estimating, and leadership. Develop communications and presentations to highlight initiatives. Contribute to business cases for investment and partnership.

What You Bring to the Team

Min 10 years of work experience in Indigenous relations and engagement and stakeholder relations. Post Secondary Education in Indigenous Studies, Political Science, Communications, Business, or comparable field is asset.. Significant Indigenous lived experience required. Engagement experience national. and residency in the GTA is required. Construction industry experience preferred but is not required. Demonstrated leadership success in development and execution of business plans. Ability to communicate successfully with Senior Executives and Officials to build relationships and rapport for business development purposes. Demonstrated advocacy of Diversity and Inclusion as a guiding principle to attract and develop business and partnerships. Exceptional relationship building skills and leverage external network to further promote awareness of Aecon. Passion and commitment to work towards building longstanding relationships. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills are essential. Ability to speak and write clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and styles effectively inside and outside the organization, and with controversial topics. Strategically courageous in support of objectives with strong business acumen. Exceptional organizational skills, ability to work under pressure with multiple deadlines. Excellent Computer skills including proficiency in MS Office. Must be willing to travel to where projects or Indigenous communities, groups, and/or businesses are located and work a flexible work schedule. Political savvy: Can maneuver through complex political situations effectively and tactfully while being sensitive to how people, organizations, and culture's function. Empathetic and influential: ability to sense varied situations in terms of parties' positions, intentions, and needs; what they value and how to motivate them. Cross-cultural agility: awareness of and sensitivity to diverse Indigenous culture and history.
