Children's Care - Paediatric Haematology Oncology

The Division of Paediatric Hematology, Oncology is seeking a Full-time Nurse Practitioner to join our dynamic team.

Dedicated to a culture of learning, the program is looking to mentor a new or experienced NP from another specialty into this unique clinical area.


The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a self-directed nurse prepared at the graduate/post-graduate level, who functions in an expanded nursing role demonstrating an elevated level of autonomy, working to full scope, both independently and within a collaborative practice model.

The NP demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge base and high degree of clinical competence in acute and chronic disease management.

The NP works collaboratively with key stakeholders to provide advanced care that optimizes patient outcomes and enhances safety, effectiveness, and accessibility.

Reporting to the Manager of Children's Hospital, LHSC, the NP will provide direct and indirect patient care, promote professional education, commit to ongoing program development and advance knowledge through research and scholarly activities.

All duties and responsibilities of the NP conform to professional practice standards of the London Health Sciences Centre guidelines.

Temporary Full-Time

Rate of Pay:
$57.26 per hour - $69.76 per hour

Duration: 6 months

Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Nursing (MScN)
  • Current registration in the extended class in any of the following specialties: (Paediatrics, Primary Care) and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • At least 2 years recent nursing experience with a clinical focus in primary or acute care; paediatric hematology oncology experience preferred
  • Current member of the Nurse Practitioner's Association of Ontario (NPAO) or Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) preferred
  • Current Professional Liability Protection through NPAO or RNAO
  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP (C)
  • Current member of Association of Paediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse (APHON) preferred
  • APHON Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider an asset
  • APHON Paediatric Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Instructor an asset
  • Certified Paediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse (CPHON) an asset
  • Expertise in functioning in an interdisciplinary health care environment
  • Recent experience collaborating with external agencies and community partners preferred
  • Ability to establish effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues and therapeutic relationships with patients and families
  • Expertise in critical thinking, clinical problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution
  • Effective organizational, conceptual and leadership skills
  • Experience in/or understanding research, program development and evaluation
  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal relations and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Demonstrated excellence as a role model for clinical leadership
  • Demonstrated experience with clinical teaching in an academic environment
  • Demonstrated excellence in clinical practice
  • Selfdirected and function independently
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated skill in insight, selfawareness and selfmanagement consistent with high emotional intelligence
  • Demonstrated ability to express oneself assertively and effectively in a nonjudgmental and respectful manner
  • Demonstrated experience and leadership in education and research
  • Ability to function as an independent practitioner and a collaborative team member
  • Eligible for crossappointment to an academic institution
  • Proven ability to act empathically, while establishing and maintaining productive relationships
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt positively to constantly changing clinical situations and multiple demands
  • Computer proficiency with Internet, Microsoft Office 365 including Outlook, Automated Clinical Systems and Virtual meeting platforms
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's Mission, Vision and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Immunization Requirements:

  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis.
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step) and COVID vaccine series.
