Job Summary:


Are you an emergency management student looking to get experience in the field? If so, the City of Mississauga's Office of Emergency Management is hiring an Emergency Management Summer Student.

This position will support the development, implementation, and maintenance of the City's emergency management program. This includes supporting activities throughout the emergency management cycle including prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. This is a full time position with an employment period from May 8 to August 25, 2023.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supporting all legislatively required aspects of the City's Emergency Management Program, as outlined in the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act and Ontario Regulation 380/0
  • Research of risks and vulnerabilities within the City of Mississauga.
  • Development and implementation of emergency preparedness public education and community engagement.
  • Development and delivery of emergency training and exercises.
  • Research and development of emergency plans.
  • Collaboration with internal City of Mississauga employees, as well as external partners on various emergency management initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a postsecondary institution as a full time student, and returning to full time studies in September 202
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office software including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
  • May require bending, lifting objects (up to 40 pounds), walking, standing, and sitting.
  • Access to reliable transportation and willing to work at a variety of locations.
