Position
We are seeking a
Mine Superintendent
for a full-time/regular position for our underground mine operations. The role will be based at the Minto mine, 250km north of Whitehorse, YT. This is a camp-based operation with a three-week on/three weeks off rotation. Travel to/from Whitehorse and the mine site is paid for by the company.

You will have:

  • Mining Engineering Technician preferred or postSecondary completion in a related field of study.
  • A minimum of 10 years of mining experience, with 5 years supervisory experience, preferably in a remote industrial environment.
  • Previous experience managing multiple contractors simultaneously as part of the operations team.
  • Experience in a remote work site is required.
  • Proficient with computers, scheduling software and business management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure mine production and development activities are achieved to plan specifications.
  • Optimize the safe extraction of ore and waste through the supervision of employees and contractors.
  • Supervise, direct, and coordinate the monitoring of underground activities.
  • Provide supervisors with daily reports and plans of underground operations.
  • Plan, direct and coordinate activities related to the production of the mine.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective operations.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor production costs and budgets and adjust operations as necessary to stay within budget.
  • Establish, in collaboration with the engineering department, daily, weekly, and monthly objectives and set priorities for the achievement of objectives.
  • Work closely with the engineering department to establish site operating methods.
  • Take part in task observations in collaboration with the health and safety (carry out prevention activities).
  • Prepare reports on production levels, operational expenses, and other topics for upper management.
  • Participate in safety meetings, accident investigations and analyses and follow up on recommendations, in addition to participating in or conducting planned inspections.
  • Ensure that the requested corrective measures are carried out.
  • Resolve workrelated difficulties and recommend actions.
  • Regularly check the condition of the equipment and ensure that repairs are carried out according to priorities. Participate in the selection of new equipment and the establishment of operating procedures with the aim of improving productivity and health and safety.
  • Identify the needs for materials, tools, and equipment necessary for the proper functioning of underground activities.
  • Ensure that a sufficient team of numbers and skills is maintained to effectively meet the needs of underground activities.
  • Perform conflict management when necessary and manage or assist in the management of disciplinary measures.
  • Evaluates the performance of its employees, establishes their training needs, and develops strategies to enable their development.
  • Actively participate in the selection of employees.
  • Be safetyconscious and maintain a workplace based on mutual respect, fairness, and integrity.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents and develop plans to prevent future occurrences.
  • Report any situation that could affect the health and safety at work of personnel as well as the physical integrity of the facilities.
  • Always comply with health and safety and environmental policies and rules and ensure compliance with these rules by all personnel under his supervision.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and developments.
  • Manage environmental remediation efforts, when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
