Reporting to the Director of Financial Reporting and Business Transformation, this position performs all work in accordance with relevant government and Ministry legislation, policies, and guidelines.

The role of Manager of Consolidation Reporting & Accountability includes the following areas of focus and responsibilities:

  • Ability to researching and analyzing complex accounting issues and provide recommendations to the Director and Executive Director.
  • Provides process and operational recommendations to the Director and Executive Director.
  • Under the leadership of the Director, this position and with the Manager of Financial Reporting, will manage the year end audit process and coordination with the Office of Auditor General, and the year end financial reporting process and coordination with the Office of the Controller.
  • Provide leadership to finance staff and provide support and guidance on issues.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to obtain monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial information for internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Review and investigate financial variance analysis to ensure appropriate and accurate reporting
  • Ensuring there are proper procedures and controls in place for timely and accurate internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Communicating regularly with Treasury Board and Finance and related entities to ensure alignment with accounting standards and government priorities.
  • Staying current on changes in accounting policies and assessing the financial implications on reporting.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the Government and Ministry, and the political environment in which the Ministry and its stakeholders operate.
  • Promoting awareness of corporate services among program areas for improved effectiveness in corporate support.
  • Recognizes and manages complexity around financial reporting by providing Strategic planning, and risk management.

Qualifications:

University graduation in a field related to the position assignment, supplemented by three years related experience. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis

AND
A Chartered Professional Accountant Designation.

Assets:

  • 47 years' experience is desirable.

Demonstrated and comprehensive knowledge and experience of:

  • The Government of Alberta financial reporting process.
  • GAAP and Public Sector Accounting Standards
  • Experience in working with external auditors and/or leading financial audits
  • Experience in financial reporting and month end, quarter end and year end financial processes and procedures
  • Ministry business plan goals, strategic priorities (Action On), issues, programs, and resources
  • Knowledge of Interpretation of Complex Data and interpreting results for Senior Management.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;
  • Knowledge of Funding and accountability mechanisms, including planning and reporting requirements and guidelines.
