Summer Writing Contract: Grade 9 Business Studies (BEM1O) (2 positions)

The successful candidates to the Summer Writing Contract: Grade 9 Business (open level) posting will collaborate on the creation of a Grade 9 Scope and Sequence document with corresponding resources, as well as a First 10 Days' tool to support educators to establish effective culturally-responsive instruction, assessment, and evaluation practices in multi-level classrooms. Candidates will also develop professional learning for Grade 9 Business educators for the September PA day.
Candidates will have system-level expertise related to the development and facilitation of effective professional learning in Business, and will develop professional learning for Grade 9 Business educators with a focus on building learner profiles and delivering responsive instruction.
Successful applicants will be compensated at the Con-Ed Remedial Rate ($46.50/hour x 30 hours plus benefits)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
An Ontario Teacher's Certificate of Qualification
A University Degree
Qualifications to teach in two divisions (junior/intermediate or intermediate/senior preferred)
Specialist in Business Studies or Honour Specialist in Business Studies (preferred) or Business Studies teaching qualification
District or system level experience in a Business Studies-related role (preferred)
Five or more years of Business teaching experience
KEY COMPETENCIES OF THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
Successful applicants for curriculum writing team will have:
Business Studies content and pedagogical knowledge for teaching and leading;
knowledge of current Business Studies curriculum, Grade 9
a repertoire of effective evidence-informed instructional strategies to engage students in learning;
in-depth knowledge of assessment, evaluation and reporting;
experience using a variety of digital tools to support online instruction, assessment and student engagement;
an ability to align professional learning with system priorities;
experience in the design and facilitation of effective professional learning;
experience working in collaboration with colleagues;
excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills; and
a knowledge of the following documents:

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
The Business Studies writing team member will:
create a Scope and Sequence for Grade 9 Business Studies aligned with the new curriculum
create First 10 Days' resources to support educators to establish effective culturally-responsive instruction, assessment, and evaluation practices in multi-level classrooms
design professional learning for secondary educators related to the planning, implementation and assessment of the Ontario Ministry of Education's new Grade 9 Business Studies curriculum
build educator capacity related to the components of an effective Business Studies program, effective pedagogical practices and the implementation of gap closing and transition strategies for students who are experiencing difficulties with learning and/or engagement;
other responsibilities to be determined based on the emerging learning needs of the system

Continuing Education Remedial Rate: $46.50/hour
R.R.O. 1990, REGULATION 298 - Operation of Schools
Section 20 - Duties of Teachers
20. In addition to the duties assigned to the teacher under the Act and by the board, a teacher shall,
(a) be responsible for effective instruction,
training and evaluation of the progress of pupils in the subjects
assigned to the teacher and for the management of the class or classes,
and report to the principal on the progress of pupils on request;
(b) carry out the supervisory duties and
instructional program assigned to the teacher by the principal and
supply such information related thereto as the principal may require;
(c) where the board has appointed teachers under
section 14 or 17, co-operate fully with such teachers and with the
principal in all matters related to the instruction of pupils;
(d) unless otherwise assigned by the principal, be
present in the classroom or teaching area and ensure that the classroom
or teaching area is ready for the reception of pupils at least fifteen
minutes before the commencement of classes in the school in the morning
and, where applicable, five minutes before the commencement of classes
in the school in the afternoon;
(e) assist the principal in maintaining close co-operation with the community;
(f) prepare for use in the teacher's class or
classes such teaching plans and outlines as are required by the
principal and the appropriate supervisory officer and submit the plans
and outlines to the principal or the appropriate supervisory officer, as
the case may be, on request;
(g) ensure that all reasonable safety procedures
are carried out in courses and activities for which the teacher is
responsible;
(h) co-operate with the principal and other
teachers to establish and maintain consistent disciplinary practices in
the school;
(i) ensure that report cards are fully and
properly completed and processed in accordance with the guides known in
English as Guide to the Provincial Report Card, Grades 1-8 and Guide to
the Provincial Report Card, Grades 9-12, and in French as Guide
d'utilisation du bulletin scolaire de l'Ontario de la 1ère à la 8e année and Guide du bulletin scolaire de l'Ontario de la 9e à la 12e
