The Roads & Transportation Department is currently looking for a forward-thinking, innovative Foreperson to join our Blacktop team on a permanent, full-time basis.

The incumbent will be an excellent communicator with strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate employees in a team environment.

The Foreperson is a working supervisor and oversees the work of a crew by performing the following duties:

  • Planning, scheduling, supervising, and assisting employees engaged in pavement repair, sidewalk maintenance/repair, Winter maintenance, and other roads maintenance work;
  • Assisting and coordinating with the Roads Supervisor in the resolution of work and employee related problems;
  • Reviewing the requirements for equipment, human resources, materials, and tools, and allocating trucks and equipment as necessary;
  • Determining methods for overcoming obstacles encountered in the course of construction and daily work routines;
  • Inspecting and participating in work to ensure that project specifications, quality, safety regulations, and standards are adhered to;
  • Preparing, reviewing, and finalizing work order documentation and crew timesheets within the District's computerized maintenance management system, Maintenance Connection;
  • Ensuring the safety of workers and the public by setting up effective traffic control and ensuring safety requirements and procedures are met; and
  • Enforcing and ensuring that all safety rules, regulations, and processes are being followed.
  • Class 5 Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia
  • Completion of Grade 12, plus 3 years related public works experience, including supervisory experience.
  • Education or experience in Road Building, or Public Works construction;
  • Education pertaining to staff supervision, team leadership, and occupational health and safety;
  • Considerable knowledge of pavement maintenance, e.g. minor asphalt repairs, major patching, asphalt/concrete curb repairs and other practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in Engineering & Transportation construction and maintenance projects;
  • Experience with winter operational activities and a Class 1 license.

  • Hours of Work:
40 hours per week (hours and days of work may vary)

  • Starting Rate of Pay:
$36.91 per hour. This position has a pay scale with 3 Steps which increase based on qualifications within the classification.
