Freelance Copywriter

Overview:

Global haircare and beauty brand is seeking a bilingual (French & English) copywriter and editor who will support the Marketing, Professional Haircolor, and Education teams.

Reporting to the Senior Copy Manager, the Copywriter/Editor is responsible for proofreading, editing, and writing copy for the brand's hairstylist education program, professional haircolor/haircare marketing and packaging material, and various digital marketing collateral, while also providing administrative and task management support to the Copy Team within a reasonable scope.

Most tasks are in English, but proficiency in French is needed to perform QA/QC for high volume of bilingual marketing and packaging materials.

This role has significant task management and admin responsibilities.

While the position requires creative thinking and writing, in order to be successful this team member is expected to be detail-oriented, organized, self-reliant, and dependable.

Tasks & Responsibilities

• Education: supporting the creation of bios, classroom & instructional presentations, affiliate marketing collateral, etc.
• Digital: editing and proofreading copy for eblasts, social media, and professional website
• Translation: Routing and reviewing translations for global markets and educational materials; performing QA/QC for French translations, including competitive research to ensure that specialized terms are translated accurately and to industry standards
• Haircolor Packaging: proofreading and editing copy for primary and secondary packaging for professional haircolor products, i.e. romance copy, directions, ingredients, UPCs, OSHA and other compliance elements; marking/annotating changes for multiple packaging artwork rounds; version control, including prompt filing of completed projects
• Supporting the Copy Team with updating style guide, reference materials, and other admin tasks
• Special projects and other tasks the Employer may consider essential in ensuring normal business operations

Skills, Abilities & Characteristics

• University/college degree in Journalism, Creative Writing, English, Communications or a similar field
• 3 years of writing and editing experience with a beauty or CPG brand or ad agency handling similar accounts
• Strong editing skills, including the ability to polish and perfect content created by hairstylists and nonnative English speakers
• Ability to accurately proofread copy with a high level of attention to detail
• Proficiency in French required, including familiarity with beauty industry and haircare lingo. Familiarity with Spanish a plus (i.e. not a requirement to speak or write in Spanish, but MUST be able to proofread accents and special characters and perform QA on decks in foreign languages with provided source/reference documents)
• Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Reader (annotation tools mandatory) and traditional proofreading (symbols). Familiarity with Basecamp, Asana, Monday, and/or similar PM platforms a plus
• Highly organized; adept at project and task management, conscientious with filing and organizing projects for easy reference including version control, and various administrative tasks as needed
• Ability to multitask and shift priorities as needed while maintaining a high level of focus and attention to detail
• Willingness to be edited and implement multiple revisions as needed
• Excellent communication and people skills
