Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities Include:


SYSTEM MANAGEMENT, MONITORING and SUPPORT- Responsible for the support and maintenance of the College's systems that provide voice and network services.- Incumbent is a key member of the team that monitors all the network and voice systems and the day to day operations that concern network operations.- Analyzes plans, installs, customizes and maintains all computing, networking and data communications software and hardware.- Identifies and resolves software, hardware and networking (LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi and Internet) problems and failures.- Performs network/system management functions: software installs/upgrades, backup and recovery, performance, security and trouble monitoring, system hardware evergreening, physical implementation of network infrastructure changes and system tuning.- Ensures the reliability and availability of servers, networking, and data communications services by monitoring system performance and capacity and implementing the appropriate changes/updates.


TECHNICAL LEADTests, configures, installs and maintains highly specialized systems in support of the College's digital infrastructure.- Performs in-depth technical analysis of networks and systems to determine root causes of performance or security issues.- Acts as technical resource to Information Technology Services, staff and other College's clients with respect to the College's technical infrastructure and services.

Survey, evaluate, and recommend software packages, hardware devices, and system platforms that will improve the reliability, performance, or serviceability of the College's network systems and infrastructure.- Consults with various levels of staff throughout the College to define system requirements, determine feasibility of the system(s) and alternatives to meet organizational demands.- Acts as the technical lead within the Network Infrastructure group, prioritizing and assigning work as necessary.


SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT, INCIDENT and PROBLEM MANAGEMENT- Serves as a support resource to the technical team that provides configuration changes to the College's network to accommodate client requests.

Resolves client issues and incidents, by documenting and maintaining information in the various tracking systems.

Deals with more challenging projects or issues that need to be escalated for technical reasons beyond the normal support team.- Establishes or modifies network infrastructures to support new classrooms, labs, or offices.- Investigates complex issues by investigating problem reports and undertaking a root cause analysis of the situation providing recommendations and long term remediation solutions.


TRAINING and DOCUMENTATION- As required, develops and provides training on various systems to all levels of college staff.- Creates and maintains technical documentation for technical infrastructure and systems.

- Provides technical guidance to the College IT organization

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum four (4) year degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related discipline
  • Specialized networking courses from recognized vendors such as Cisco, Aruba or Microsoft

Minimum of eight (8) years experience in:

  • Internetworking and data/voice communications.
  • An extensive working knowledge demonstrated with a background in IP networking including Cisco IOS and Cisco networking products, and TCP/IP, LAN and WAN protocols, Security methods/protocols, firewall and VPN technologies.
  • Experience with advanced routing/switching techniques is essential.
