YOUR ROLE
As a container checker, you will thoroughly inspect containers arriving at the terminal gate, thereby ensuring compliance with regulations. This includes visually inspecting the exterior and interior conditions of the containers, writing estimates for damages and verifying seals. The checker will coordinate with yard personnel, such as terminal operators and truck drivers, in order to facilitate the smooth flow of containers through the terminal

You will report to the depot supervisor and your key responsibilities will include_:_

  • Count, inspect, sort, identify & record storage location of all cargo discharging (or coming off a truck).
  • Count, Inspect, sort, identify & record stow location of all cargo Stowed (or being loaded onto a truck).
  • Load / unload trucks
  • Receive cargo on trucks
  • Ship out cargo from yard to trucks
  • Mark & take dimension of cargo.
  • Keep Written Tallies and Record
  • Draft estimates
  • Keep record with the use of electronic Equipment (Tablet & Scanner)
  • Other associated duties, as required;
  • High School diploma is a minimum requirement;
  • 1 year experience in shipping & receiving (Warehouse, Yards, Stevedoring) is beneficial;
  • Attention to detail in following & performing basic instructions;
  • Conscientious about pride in work;
  • IICL Certification is an asset;
  • Proven record of dependability and working autonomously
  • Strong mathematical skills for keeping counts and tallies
  • Available for working long hours, holidays & weekends
  • Ability to Write / Read in English & French

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Work is 100% outdoors
  • Capable of walking, bending, stooping, climbing ladders up to 100ft high and have fast physical reactions (jump, move)
  • Ability to work in a noisy environment
