This role would be specific to supporting our Moving Black Lives Forward Program.

The Moving Black Lives Forward program is a session based program providing a safe space for Black Youth ages 13 to 21, to develop awareness, preparedness & wellness within themselves and their community.

The program focuses on topics such as wellness and self-care, leadership development, financial literacy, civic duties, legal rights, education, entrepreneurship and career development.

What you will do


You will support youth (aged 13-21 years) in a variety of weekly Moving Black Lives Forward programs for that support their physical, social and mental wellbeing, personal development, leadership skills, and more.

You will work as a part of the wider YMCA of Three Rivers Youth Team and through there more specifically the YMCA of Three Rivers Newcomer Youth Team to plan, promote, implement, and facilitate a variety of programs, events and workshops to meet the changings needs of Black Youth in our community.

You will build strong, positive and trusting relationships with youth. This will require flexible hours and transportation to support youth when and where they need it.
You will support youth to discover their personal identity regardless of gender, ethnicity, socio-economic status.

You will empower youth to explore personal talents, build self confidence and will foster connections to networks and opportunities that enable youth to thrive.

You will promote participation in community activities and volunteerism to enhance civic engagement.

You will nurture a global mindset to build awareness and understanding of the global community and their place in it.


What you will bring
Ideally, you will have experience working with youth yrs.) from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. You will have experience navigating the challenges that Black Youth in our community face or lived experience yourself.

Post-secondary education in Child and Youth Work, Social Sciences, Recreation and Leisure or a related field, is an asset but not required.


  • You will be an excellent communicator, with strong interpersonal and relationship building skills. You are committed to assisting youth develop new skills and have a demonstrated ability to work independently and achieve set goals. Adaptability, communication, initiative, supporting equity, diversity & inclusion and teamwork are key competencies you rely on in your day to day work.
