Adaptation Analyst
This posting is for full time permanent position, working 75 hours bi-weekly.


The Climate Change Secretariat within Department of Environment is comprised of a small but dedicated team responsible for ensuring effective implementation of Government of Yukon's climate change action and for providing government-wide leadership and coordination on Yukon's response to climate change.

The secretariat works across Government of Yukon departments and with many partners both within government and externally to lead and support Yukon's participation in climate change activities at local, regional, national, and international levels.

The secretariat is responsible for ensuring effective implementation and coordination of Our Clean Future:
a Yukon strategy for climate change, energy, and a green economy.

Your role


As an Adaptation Analyst, you will be responsible for coordinating Yukon government's actions in accordance with the Our Clean Future strategy, with a focus on climate change adaptation efforts within Yukon government.

This position works with government departments and other stakeholders to research, analyze, develop, communicate, and implement climate change policies and strategies in a manner that contributes to the achievement of the Yukon government's adaptation goals and objectives.

This position also collaborates with federal and territorial partners to support the allocation of funding to initiatives that advance the Yukon's adaptation and resilience priorities.

  • Postsecondary education in environmental policy, sustainability, environmental science, natural science, engineering, public administration, or a related field.
  • Experience in developing or implementing climate change, sustainability and/or environmental strategies/action plans.
  • Experience in researching, analyzing, and synthesizing, and reporting technical information and complex data. Experience with project management (i.e., planning, implementing, and reporting on complex projects), preferably in a climate change field.

Experience you can bring to the position:

  • Experience in the field of climate change adaptation or climate risk management would be an asset.
  • Experience in policy research would be an asset.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Suitability

  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information in a variety of forms (including written, oral, and visually) to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to draft decisionmaking documents such as option papers, briefing notes, backgrounders, and communications packages.
  • Ability to shift focus and activities quickly and strategically in response to numerous diverse priorities, challenges and demands.
  • Ability to model interpersonal skills and personal responsibility.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to coordinate with and work effectively and collaboratively across various departments, organizations, stakeholders, partners, etc.
  • Ability to take action and achieve results.

Additional Information:

  • Job Requirements: Occasional travel to the communities in Yukon and across Canada may be required.
