We're looking for a Staff Data Engineer with strong back-end experience to join our growing Data Engineering team. Our group, based out of San Mateo, CA, is responsible for building software used by millions of users. You will work in a Tribe/Squad and supporting data group structure and will maintain enterprise data products related to member, merchant, and transactions data. Our team serves as a cornerstone for various stakeholders including Finance, Legal, Customer Service, Sales, Site Ops, and Data Governance. As part of our team, you'll experience the best of both worlds, challenging work at a large profitable multinational company with the rapid growth and agility of a startup. In this role, you will be responsible for processing, reviewing and organizing data. You will provide accurate, timely, and consistent data to the organization and will create data management plans including data acquisition & cleansing, data validation activities, writing specifications for data verifications, etc. You will gather input from cross-functional teams, creating plans that help produce deliverables on schedule while ensuring consistency of data and processes. Lastly, you will oversee and resolve the operational aspects of data management, identifying inefficiencies and implementing process improvements. Key Responsibilities:
  • Develops and maintains robust data models to support business requirements, analytical needs and machine learning use cases.
  • Designs and implements efficient ETL/ELT processes to ingest, transform, and load data.
  • Optimizes data pipelines for performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams and multiple disciplines to understand data requirements and provide technical expertise on data-related projects.
  • Implements data governance best practices to ensure data quality, integrity, and security.
  • Builds and maintains documentation for data processes, data dictionaries, and data lineage.
  • Applies highly developed knowledge of complex algorithms, data science methods, and statistical analysis techniques to prepare and present data visualizations to key stakeholders and leaders of relevant business units.
  • Remains current with industry trends and best practices in data engineering, cloud technologies, and data analytics.
  • Coaches and trains junior colleagues in techniques, processes, and responsibilities.

  • Proven experience (8+ years) as a Data Engineer or similar role, with a focus on data modeling, SQL, Python, and Snowflake.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL for data manipulation and querying.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-based data platforms, particularly Snowflake.
  • Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, and ETL/ELT processes.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • B.S. or M.S in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • 8-11 years of experience in data engineering or related roles.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python.
  • Experience with cloud-based data warehousing platforms.
