Position Summary

The chosen candidate for the HCA Trainee role will perform as a UHCA throughout the Bridging Program. Role details below. After successfully finishing the Bridging Program, the HCA Trainee (UHCA) transitions into a certified HCA role.

Reporting to the Manager, RN, RPN, and/or LPN, the HCA Trainee collaborates with the entire health care team, including certified Health Care Aides, in delivering resident care and essential support. The individual demonstrates the appropriate level of initiative and independent judgment in setting work priorities, methods to be applied, and response to unusual situations. The role aligns with the organization's mission, vision, values, and policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in both official languages is necessary (English/French)
  • Completion of an approved 7-day Health Care Support Worker micro-credential course or equivalent
  • Minimum of 300 paid hours as a UHCA in the last 12 months
  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • 18 years or older; Grade 12 (or mature student Grade 10)
  • Proficient in English (Level 6 IELTS or Level 7 CLB)
  • Commitment to completing an approved HCA Bridging Program
  • Continued employment is dependent on successful completion of an approved HCA Bridging Program

The ideal candidate will:

  • Assist residents in daily living activities like walking, bathing, feeding, etc.
  • Provide support to the health care team and certified Health Care Aides within their training and competence level
  • Help residents with rest and activity
  • Provide constant care to assigned residents
  • Monitor wandering residents and respond promptly to resident calls
  • Transport residents as needed
  • Address physical and emotional needs of residents
  • Offer relevant patient information to assist in care planning
  • Help with equipment cleaning and maintenance
  • Demonstrate knowledge of unit equipment

The position might involve physical tasks such as standing, transferring patients, and restocking supplies. Respect for cultural diversity is essential due to the region's demographics. Ability to maintain confidentiality and meet the job's physical and mental demands are crucial.
