Job Summary:


The Construction Manager, reporting to the Project Manager, is responsible for the effective planning and safe execution of seasonal construction activities related to resuming site access road and tunnel development, including overseeing and coordinating the construction management team and contractors.


The Construction Manager will contribute as an integral member of the GCMC Project Team, and work in close collaboration with the Project Management, Field Operations, Engineering, and Social, Environmental, and Regulatory affairs (SERA) disciplines to maintain alignment and achieve scope, schedule, budget, social and environmental performance objectives.


Overview:

This position is based at the Galore Creek project site in northwestern British Columbia.

Galore Creek is one of the world's largest undeveloped porphyry copper-gold-silver deposits.

Galore Creek Mining Corporation (GCMC), a partnership between Newmont Corporation (Newmont) and Teck Resources Limited (Teck), is committed to improving the project economics and advancing the asset towards development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, leading by example and fostering a proactive safety and sustainability culture based on the common values of health, safety, environment, and communities shared by the asset owners (Teck and Newmont). Provide leadership in the implementation and adherence to GCMC's Health, Safety, Environmental, and Community (HSEC) policy.
  • As a member of a multidisciplinary project team, collaborate and influence Project activities to ensure adherence to cost, schedule, and progress objectives, find opportunities and mitigate risks, and proactively develop, communicate, and execute strategic action plans to correct deviations and/or realize value.
  • Lead the following key functions for GCMC:
  • Provide leadership and monitoring of construction project health, safety, and environmental performance;
  • Constructability reviews;
  • Integrated construction planning, scheduling, and estimating;
  • Contracting and procurement activities, including scope of work development, review of proposal documents, and contractor selection;
  • Construction team organizational chart and job description development, and hiring, with input and support from the Project Director, Project Manager, and Field Operations Manager;
  • Development of safe work practices, operating procedures, and training programs;
  • Execution of all seasonal construction activities, including:
  • Overseeing and coordinating the GCMC construction management team, and interface with the broader Field Operations group;
  • Supervision of contractors and subcontractors;
  • Schedule, cost and progress tracking and reporting, including analysis and proactive mitigation of variances;
  • Identification, communication to the Project Manager, management, and resolution of deficiencies and nonconformances to achieve required quality standards; and
  • Proactively identify emerging issues, and develop and action mitigation plans.
  • Preparation of Lessons Learned to inform future construction planning;
  • Provide construction and constructability support to the broader project through review of engineering design drawings, and execution schedule and capital cost estimate deliverables, and participation in related meetings and workshops; and
  • Build respectful working relationships within the Project Team, asset owners, and external stakeholders including Tahltan Nation members and companies.

Qualifications:

  • Greater than 15 years of solid, progressive construction supervision and management experience in one or a combination of Owner's team environment, construction company, or engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) company.
  • Versatile construction management professional, with experience in:
  • Helicopter and heavy helicopter supported construction;
  • Installation of camp facilities and ancillary infrastructure;
  • Brushing and tree clearing;
  • Earthworks, including road construction in steep mountainous terrain; and
  • Tunnel excavation.
  • Technical diploma or equivalent years of supervisory experience.
  • High degree of comfort working and building relationships at a remote project site location.
  • Large mining, oil & gas, infrastructure, or forestry project (+$1B) experience is preferred.
  • Recognized leader with strong problem solving, planning, and decisionmaking skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction organizational structures, and typical resource requirements for executing strategic shortterm and longterm construction plans
