Western Energy Services Corp.

is an oilfield service company which provides contract drilling services through Horizon Drilling in Canada and Stoneham Drilling Corporation in the United States.

In addition, Western provides well servicing through Eagle Well Servicing in Canada, and provides rental services through Aero Rental Services in Canada.


Location - TBD (Offices located in Blackfalds, Lloydminster, Grande Prairie, and Virden):

Position Summary:


The Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Superintendent plays a critical role in ensuring the health, safety, and environmental compliance of Eagle Well Servicing's operations.

Reporting to both the Operations Manager and the Corporate HSE Manager, the HSE Superintendent is responsible for implementing and overseeing safety programs, policies, and procedures at the field level to mitigate risks and promote a culture of safety excellence.

In addition, this position is required to overs and manage multiple priorities including but not limited to; field HSE initiatives and inspections, legislative and regulatory requirements, employee training, and various other HSE related tasks.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reporting directly to the Operations Manager for daytoday activities and indirectly to the Corporate HSE Manager for divisional alignment to the safety policies, standards, and initiatives established at the corporate level, the HSE Superintendent will ensure safety and operational efficiency are equally prioritized;
  • Provide leadership and guidance to promote a strong safety culture throughout Eagle's operations;
  • Will ensure safety standards, protocols, and best practices are followed and understood by Eagle Well Servicing Personnel;
  • Responsible for incident investigations and reporting for all severity of incidents as required, determining root cause and recommending corrective actions. Prepare and submit accurate and timely incident reports to Operational and Corporate HSE;
  • Performs reporting, risk assessments, auditing and observes all HSE related activities;
  • Deliver training sessions for management, supervisors and workers on HSE practices, policies and regulations as required;
  • Coaches Operations in conducting activities safely, efficiently and in conformance to provincial/federal safety regulations by integrating and implementing company and thirdparty HSE policies and procedures;
  • Coaches Operations to confirm compliance of onsite contractors to company safety practices and government legislation;
  • Coaches Operations to confirm that personal protective equipment, such as dust masks, safety glasses, footwear and Hardhats, are being used in workplaces according to regulations, and that dangerous materials are correctly labeled and stored;
  • Training new employees on HSE orientation and awareness programs;
  • Communicate programs to employees on HSE issues by way of meetings, posters, and incentive programs;
  • Advises and cooperates with area management and field workers in the carrying out of approved safety and environmental programs and alerts management of improvement opportunities;
  • Serves as a resource person to area management as well as to other groups throughout the Company when requested;
  • Attend area safety meetings on a regular basis and provide resource support where applicable;
  • In consultation with the Corporate HSE Manager to assist with a reply to governmental agencies (i.e. AEP, OH&S, Albert Transportation, etc.) on any deficiencies found within their area of responsibility;
  • Take a lead role in implementation of recommendations from internal or external HSE audits.
  • Any other duties as required by management.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Minimum of 5 years of industry experience (oil and gas), HSE Advisor/Superintendent experience is an asset.
  • OH&S designation or CRSP designation would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of business operations.
  • Degree in relevant field or related equivalency.
  • Experience or knowledge of WHIMS, OH&S Act, Canada Labour Code, W.C.B. Act and legislation, risk management training or other HS&E related training.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Ability to relate to operations of different divisions. Familiar with Safety management system & Safety Auditing theory. Incident investigation & root cause analysis, OH&S regulations & codes.
  • Professional and positive attitude, excellent work ethic, strong desire to learn and succeed.
  • Excellent team leadership skills, as well as a demonstrable ability to motivate a staff with wide ranging abilities and skills.
