Interested in a career as a plumber? Trade Smart College has several unpaid plumber practicums available for students who enrol in its Diploma program in Hamilton.

The diploma begins on May 6, and the practicums start on July 2, 2024.

The Apprenticeship Pathway from Classroom to Apprenticeship


If you've tried to get signed as a plumber apprentice but haven't been successful yet, send us a cover letter describing your experience, and your resume.

We connect motivated students with forward-thinking employers with the goal of getting more people into apprenticeships.


You will spend two months in class, followed by six months on a practicum placement with a Trade Smart certified employer where you will learn the essential skills required to become a plumber's apprentice.

We only place students with companies who are willing to set aside an apprenticeship opportunity for every student they accept on a practicum.

Students may earn the opportunity to be signed as an apprentice by passing their practicum placement with distinction.

Position Details and Requirements


These are unpaid positions that are part of a diploma approved as a vocational program under the Ontario Career Colleges Act, 2005.

Applicants must meet the admission requirements for, and enrol in, the diploma program to secure one of these placements.

Minimum requirements:

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent

Must be 18 years or older

Must have a G2 Driver's License

Must pass an admissions interview
