Interim Director of Communications & Public Relations

Reports To: Chief, Strategy, Stakeholder relations, Research, Information & Knowledge

Duration: 6-12 months

Location: Toronto, ON

Hybrid 2 days on-site 3 days remote

Our client, a prominent government agency, provides specialized advice to various publicly funded organizations and health providers. This is a unique opportunity for a Director of Communications with a twist - it requires leveraging your skills in a non-traditional setting. If you have a background in health agencies or health service providers and enjoy guiding teams through transitions, this role is tailor-made for you. The ideal candidate will serve as a mentor and leader, offering support and expertise in developing and executing educational programs for adult healthcare professionals.

This position offers an exciting chance to make a significant impact within a high-profile organization. You will play a key role in providing strategic leadership and guidance in crafting, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating our client's Knowledge Exchange strategy/framework. This is vital for maximizing the organization's research and evidence impact and enhancing the health system's capabilities.

RESPONSABILITIES

  • Lead and direct a comprehensive array of knowledge exchange services to drive innovation and change at individual, organizational, and system levels.
  • Oversee educational and professional development programs to address current and emerging needs, shaping the future generation of professionals.
  • Guide library services and knowledge exchange efforts to influence healthcare systems and partners positively.
  • Ensure all knowledge products and educational offerings comply with existing legislation and are easily accessible.
  • Champion knowledge exchange tools and practices to empower senior leaders and enhance evidence-based decision-making.
  • Ensure organizational compliance with policies, standards, and communication-related directives.
  • Manage critical internal and external relationships, resolving conflicts effectively.
  • Define strategic directions, operational goals, and provide leadership to drive staff performance towards organizational objectives.
  • Uphold organizational values and culture within the team.
  • Support client responses during emergencies as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master's degree in a relevant field like adult education, knowledge translation, or public policy.
  • Minimum of ten years' progressive senior management experience in academic, healthcare, or science sectors.
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing professional development and education programs.
  • Expertise in all facets of Knowledge Mobilization.
  • Political acumen and understanding of government dynamics.
  • Extensive knowledge of Canadian public health and healthcare systems.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and derive strategic insights.
  • Experience in budget management and adherence to financial guidelines.
