Position Summary:

Reporting directly to the Manitou House Pathfinder or Lead Journey Helper, the journey helper is responsible for the delivery of direct support and assistance to relatives who call Manitou House home.

Within the parameters of both Native Clan Organization (NCO) Policy and the CSC 'Statement of Work', your responsibilities include, but are not limited to;

Journey Helper Responsibilities and Duties:

1 Compliance with the NCO Mission Statement, as well as all applicable Directives, Policies, Protocols and CSC Directives.

2 Participation in Professional Development as directed by the your supervisor and mentor outlined in the organizational chart of NCO.

3 Arrive at workplace 10 minutes before shift start to receive outgoing staff brief. Ensuring that handover brief completed with incoming shift.

4 Review and initialing duty logbook and communications book upon arrival and maintaining these records throughout shift by documenting all activities.

6 Check the prescription drug file to prepare for shift.

7 Ensure that the relative Sign In/Sign Out book is immediately completed in full to include resident phone numbers and resident location changes.

8 Frequent verification of relative phone numbers and locations.

9 Conduct and recording minimum of three "breathing body" house/fire checks per shift.

10 Conduct routine cleanliness inspections of relative's rooms/personal spaces, reporting concerns to the assigned pathfinder.

11 Support relatives to keep their spaces clean and orderly at all times in a positive manner.

12 Report any relevant relative behavioral observations to the assigned case manager.

13 Report any relative breaches (late for curfew, fail to return, condition other than normal, etc.) directly to the assigned pathfinder during regular work hours. Contacting the National Monitoring Center to advise of breaches after hours, weekends, and statutory holidays. These verbal reports must be followed by written reports to be completed before end of shift with copies provided to the assigned pathfinder, Manitou House Director, and the Lead Journey Helper.

14 Work within a team to monitor daily activities of relatives in a residential and healing focused setting.

15 Supervise programs and activities that promote a positive reintegration of relatives back into their home communities.

16 Provide individual support and direction to relatives who we support.

17 Ensure relatives follow house rules and regulations.

18 Assist our relatives with individual case planning and reporting as needed.

19 Identify and report to your supervisor any potential risks to relative, staff, or community safety.

20 Complete general house duties (cleaning, light lunch preparation, ensuring general food supplies ready for the morning, etc.) as needed.

21 Ensure the proper entrance procedures of the facility are followed by staff, visitors, and our relatives to ensure the safety of Manitou House.

22 Adhere to acceptable hygiene standards and the outlined employee dress code to provide a model for our relatives.

23 Any other duties assigned by the your supervisor or mentor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1 High School Diploma preferred but consideration will be given to a combination of maturity, education and experience. Life experience will also be considered for this qualification.

2 Further education in counseling, community development, program development and/or delivery desirable but not essential.

3 Experience with CSC desirable but not essential. Experience with other justice agencies or organizations will also be considered.

4 Experience in similar rehabilitative and healing settings desirable but not essential.

5 Ability to conduct individual counseling and support.

6 Ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral.

7 Ability to use Microsoft Office software, OMS (offender management system) and other required software.

8 Ability to take direction, exercise discretion and show leadership in stressful situations. Must be assertive, confident and a positive role model for those we serve.
