The Casualty & Auto Adjuster role entails a diverse set of responsibilities focused on handling various types of insurance claims while maintaining high standards of customer service and adherence to policy guidelines.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Coverage Determination and Investigation: Assessing the extent of coverage for claims and conducting thorough investigations.
  • Negotiation and Settlement: Engaging in negotiations with involved parties to reach fair settlements within policy parameters.
  • Communication: Maintaining clear and concise communication with insured individuals, third parties, adjusters, and lawyers throughout the claims process.
  • Participation in Legal Proceedings: Involvement in mediations, hearings, and trials as needed, potentially requiring occasional travel.
  • Stay Informed: Keeping up-to-date with current case law, coverage trends, and regulations relevant to the field.
  • Interdepartmental Collaboration: Regularly exchanging information with other departments regarding risks and claims.

Qualifications:

  • Intuitive Mind: Ability to intuitively grasp and assess complex situations.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting with various stakeholders effectively.
  • Time Management and Organization: Strong time management, prioritization, and organizational skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Problem-Solving Ability: Capable of analyzing problems and finding effective solutions independently or collaboratively.
  • Anatomy and Legal Knowledge: Good understanding of anatomy, physiology, legal and arbitration systems, as well as Alberta Auto and Accident Benefit regulations.
  • Experience and Education: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role, with preference given to candidates with post-secondary education and completion of relevant designations such as CIP. Prior experience with property loss is also advantageous.
