The role of the wood shop employee is a full-time position where the successful applicant will work under the direct supervision of the Foreman.

The wood shop employee will assist in the manufacturing of elevator interior components.

Key responsibilities consist of reading production sheets and cutting wood to size using table saws and other hand tools as well as assembling elevator interior panels.


Job specifications:

Education/experience

  • 12 years' experience in similar position
  • Knowledge of thickness planer, wood shaper, and table saw
  • Intermediate knowledge of hand and power tools and general manufacturing processes
  • Familiarity with CAD Drawings and working with different types of wood

Complexity/analysis

  • Identifying and resolving problems as they arise in the work process, consulting with coworkers where needed
  • Reads and follows CAD drawings
  • Organizational skills are an asset
  • Always follows safe work practices

Direction received

  • Receives direction from the Foreman to prioritize work and ensure deadlines are met
  • Selfstarter, hardworking and takes initiative

Responsibilities/Accountability

  • Reading production sheets and cutting wood to size using table saws
  • Must always adhere to safe work practices and procedures as well as all other applicable health and safety laws and regulations
  • Reading drawings and production sheets to ensure products are manufactured accurately and to specifications
  • Must handle work with finesse and precision
  • Time management skills are essential to ensure that material is ready for scheduled work
  • Accurate maintenance of production records may be required

Inside/outside relationships

  • Frequent contact with Foreman and other warehouse employees

Position conditions

  • Standing and walking, occasional medium to heavy lifting and bending.
  • Some evening and weekend work may be required
  • Works in dusty/noisy environments at times
  • Must wear appropriate PPE
