The EFry Hope and Help for Women is dedicated to providing settlement and integration services to Asylum seeking Women and Families fleeing their homes.

We will provide assistance and coordination ofservicesto ensure a safe space, basic-needs provisions and guidance to settle into a temporary or permanent home within Canada.


The Settlement Caseworker is responsible for providing intakes, assessments, and orientation services in a culturally sensitive manner,through a trauma-informed model of care to advance the well-being of Asylum newcomers.

The Settlement Caseworker will be part of a dynamic, fast-paced team on as part of a 11 am - 7 pm staffing model which will include weekends

Areas of Responsibility:

  • Builds positive, respectful, and nonjudgmental relationships with the newcomers
  • Providesinformation aboutresources and servicesto all people living in the facility using a traumainformed approach
  • Provides assessment, information and orientation services to facilitate adjustment, while providing, needs assessment, crisis intervention and information and referralservices. Assists newcomersto establish and maintain links with appropriate resourcesincluding services relating to employment, language training, settlement, general health care, volunteer opportunities, etc.
  • Facilitates accessto referrals and appropriate services both in the community where there may be barriers due to language, culture and race
  • Promotes culturally sensitive links within the facility and community
  • Collaborates with internal teams/ unitsin planning, organizing orimplementing activitiesto provide a safe space for the newcomers
  • Establishes and maintains excellent working relationships and communication with internal and external groups
  • Conducts community mapping and engages newcomersin the process
  • Keeps accurate and detailed administrative records of services and activities and completes required reports
  • Overseesthe operations of the facility including monitoring its health and safety, fostering itssanctuary, responding to crisis situations, facilitating services, and other duties as required
  • Operates as part of a team and shares decision making, duties, and communicates effectively while on shift
  • Participates as a member of the team, taking initiative and assuming responsibility
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager or designate
  • Social Service Worker, Child Youth Care, Community Justice Services Diploma or other relevant education
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations
  • Demonstrated ability to provide case management to vulnerable population.
  • Knowledge ofspecific issuesfacing refugees and immigrants, race relations, gender, abuse survivors, mental health and trauma
  • Knowledge ofservices and resourcesthat exist within the Greater Toronto Area.
  • Demonstrated experience in dataentry, documentation and reporting.
  • Excellent communication, organization and coordination skills.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hoursincluding some evenings.
  • Required to provide a valid Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) Police check. The VSC must have been completed within the past 6 months.
  • Valid First Aid / CPR certification
  • Food Handlers Certificate
  • Full vaccination against COVID19, and able to provide proof
