The Canadian Muslim Women's Institute Inc. (CMWI) is a non-profit organization founded in 2006. Its goal is to promote and empower refugee and newcomer women and their families socially, economically and spiritually. CMWI is a direct service delivery organization serving its members through a variety of programs and services that cater to the needs of immigrants and refugees. By creating a community that supports and strengthens refugee and newcomer women, CMWI plays a transformative role in enabling them to make informed decisions for themselves and their families; foster sound emotional health, stability and personal development; and achieve self-sufficiency and financial independence.

Position Summary:


The
Childcare Skills Instructor has two roles: 1- Running the "Care for Newcomer Children" Program at CMWI 2- Delivering the childcare skills employment training; which prepares newcomer women for employment in the childcare field as Childcare Assistants.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Run the Care for Newcomer Children Program:

  • Take the lead in meeting Care for Newcomer Children (CNC) requirements, including revision of policies and procedures, delivery of CNC services (the usual role of an ECE in a daycare setting), and ongoing evaluation and upgrade of the services provided
  • Ensure compliance with all policies related to safety
  • Plan and implement appropriate activities for children enrolled, on a daily basis, online programs and sessions with children and parents, and occasionspecific programs for children, such as Eid activities days, orientation days, etc.
  • Participate in daily routines of children including toileting, diapering, feeding, and other housekeeping tasks
  • Communicate effectively with parents, supervisor, management, and team
  • Select, train, and manage CNC staff and volunteers
  • Ensure there are sufficient appropriate materials and equipment for the operation of the childcare, and coordinate the procurement of supplies with the supervisor

Delivery of Childcare Skills Employment Training:

  • Deliver childcare skills training to newcomer women to prepare them for jobs as CCAs
  • Prepare lessons plans with audio/visual aids to assist in delivery for a successful class
  • Delivery of instruction in theory and practice, to develop fundamental skills and knowledge
  • Assist the other employment staff and consultants for successful program delivery
  • Assist participants in securing practicums and employment during and after training
  • Support the employment team in promotion of the training program and recruiting participants (students) by networking and developing partnerships with daycare facilities

Qualifications:

  • ECEII certificate
  • Experience working in the childcare field with an ability to work directly with children of all ages
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering ECE programming and services
  • Experience in developing and delivering/facilitating training sessions for adults is an asset

Requirements:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
- knowledge of settlement service and community organizations

  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills
  • Good computer skills (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Strong ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Nonjudgmental and accepting attitude, with the ability to maintain confidentiality

Working Hours:

9:00am - 5:00pm Mon - Fri. Some evening and weekend work might be required
