As a member of our team, you will be responsible for:

Business Tax Support:

Lead tax workstreams supporting the deal teams on real estate acquisitions, dispositions, and developments, and implementing tax efficient holding structures;
Advise the Real Estate Financing & Capital Markets team on all types of debt financings;
Providing tax support to the Legal team on various legal agreements: lease agreements, service agreements, property management agreements, various other types of agreements;
Provide ongoing support for all business units, including the communication of recent/proposed tax changes and tax risks;

Tax Compliance:

Assist with the preparation and review of tax returns (corporate, trust, partnership);
Assist with worldwide transfer pricing compliance, working with advisors to ensure completion of appropriate contemporaneous documentation;
Effectively manage tax audits, working with all business functions to support tax positions;
Keep up to date on changes in tax laws and views;

Ongoing and Special Projects:

Evaluate corporate structure to identify opportunities for internal reorganizations to optimize existing tax structures;
Assist with the development and implementation of tax strategies and internal tax education materials, identifying and mitigating tax risks, liaising with and managing external advisors;
Develop and deliver "Lunch and Learn" type income tax sessions to internal stakeholders;
Advise on various diverse and challenging ad hoc special projects.

To succeed in this role, you:
Have at least 5 years of experience in tax in a large public accounting firm or in a large complex corporate group with progressive tax exposure, M&A background and/or Real Estate industry and/or pension tax experience is an asset

Strong Canadian Income Tax compliance background

Have a CPA or equivalent

Completed or are currently enrolled in the CPA In-depth Tax Course

Ability to work independently on multiple projects at any given time

Have strong communication and interpersonal skills, and able to demonstrate sound judgment

Strong business acumen and ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner, in particular on complex tax matters

Results oriented, intellectual curiosity and proven ability to multitask
