What we are looking for:

The practice of advanced physiotherapy is the assessment of physical function and the treatment, and prevention of physical dysfunction, injury or pain, to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment function or to relieve pain. In this position, the physiotherapist will be functioning as an advanced practitioner who will practice as an interprofessional member alongside surgeons, radiologists and other members of the health team. The physiotherapist will be working independently and with surgeons to identify and assess diseased joints while making recommendations for future options for the patient.

Work schedule:

The successful candidate will be available to work 7.5-hour day shifts, Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities
  • Provides patient care following current accepted standards of practice and principles of physiotherapy in the assessment, treatment and education of patients, and maintains liaison with other members of the health care team concerning the progress of patients.
  • Independent and collaborative patient care such as radiographic (x-ray) knowledge and ability to read an x-ray.
  • Carries out administrative duties consisting of: keeping statistics of productivity, ensuring patient and staff safety, attending staff meetings, involvement in program development and implementation, quality improvement initiatives and quality assurance activities.
  • Maintains liaison and team approach with other members of the team.
  • Case manages and provides patient care following current accepted standards of practice and principles of physiotherapy in the assessment and education of patients.
  • Maintains personal professional growth through in-service education and literature review.
  • Involvement in program development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives and quality assurance activities.
  • Assumes a leadership role in influencing clinical practice and patient outcomes and collaborates with health care team and community partners regarding complex and challenging patient care situations.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent.
  • Completion of a Master of Science in Physiotherapy preferred.
  • Certificate of Registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario.
  • Completion of ACPAC (Advanced Clinical Practitioner of Arthritis Care) preferred.
  • Membership in the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience, working closely with Orthopaedic Surgeons in the care of post-operative and pre-operative Orthopaedic patients.
  • Specialized training by orthopaedic surgeons to develop knowledge and skill in identifying types and stages of hip and knee joint diseases, shoulder, ankle and foot injury or diseases.
  • Specialized training by radiologists to determine on x-ray, stages and types of abnormal hip, knee, shoulder, ankle and foot joints and arthritis.
  • Ability to assess and analyse clinical findings in order to develop treatment plans appropriate for the patient's condition.
  • Ability to work effectively with a multi-disciplinary health care team.
  • Orthopaedic and/or chronic musculo-skeletal assessment experience.
  • Experience conducting research an asset.
  • Bilingualism in French/English an asset.
  • Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital-related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required.
