About Wanasah
Wanasah is a new mental health agency created to address the mental health and addictions needs of Black youth and their families through effective Black-centric mental health services in the community. They value inclusive, trauma-informed care with a meaningful incorporation of spirituality and community voice in programming. The organization is based in Regent Park, Toronto.
This is a great opportunity to join an organization dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of Black youth in Toronto. The successful candidate will work with a small, dedicated team to develop, evaluate, and adapt an innovative care model.
Position Summary
Wanasah is seeking a Community Nurse to work with Black youth aged 12-25 with mental health and addictions concerns in Regent Park and neighboring areas. Responsibilities include intake coordination, support for case management clients, referrals, and clinical support for the counseling team. The role involves utilizing a Black-centric, person-centered, spiritually affirming, and trauma-informed approach.
Responsibilities Include:
- Provide short term, intensive case management to Black youth and families
- Support intake assessments and care triage
- Offer counseling and crisis intervention
- Liaise with community health agencies
- Develop workshops/training sessions on mental health topics
- Maintain accurate client records
- Comply with organizational policies
- Build positive relationships with clients and community resources
- Perform other assigned duties
Requirements:
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Baccalaureate degree in Nursing
- 2-3 years' mental health experience
- Experience with youth and families
- Knowledge of clinical assessment and counseling
- Understanding of pertinent legislation and local resources
- Strong organizational and time management skills
Information about the position:
Urban home visits required. Staff may work in a variety of environments, including evenings and weekends. A medical/dental benefits package is included.
Remuneration will be based on qualifications and experience.
Annual Salary Range: Competitive
