*JOB SUMMARY – What will you do?


Under general supervision of and reporting to the Security Supervisor, the security guard will be responsible for the provision of security guard services and any other duties which may pertain to their assigned location.

*Specific Duties
  • Responding efficiently and effectively to fire drills, external and internal disasters and/or drills, trauma alerts, emergency response codes etc.
  • Managing verbally or physically aggressive situations without injury to patients and staff, using verbal intervention/de-escalations, skills while remaining calm.
  • Ensure continuous monitoring of the patient activity and behaviour to maintain a safe and secure environment.
  • Regularly patrol hospital interiors and exteriors. Indoor patrols involve monitoring various areas within the hospital, including hallways, waiting rooms and other public spaces. Outdoor patrols encompass the hospital grounds, parking lots and surrounding areas.
  • Monitor parking areas and enforcing parking regulations. This includes ensuring that vehicles are parked in designated areas, verifying proper permits and addressing any violations.
  • Performing other administrative tasks as required.
*EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE – What you will bring?

  • Valid Ontario Security License completed grade 12 and/or police foundation diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of security experience, experience in health care industry is preferred.
  • Work or volunteer experience within the vulnerable sector is preferred.
  • Ability to meet immunization requirements.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts and standing/walking for long periods of time
  • Ability to perform patrols by foot and respond to situations in a reasonable timeframe
  • Ability to work with people who are under stress or in need of medical assistance
  • Excellent analytical and observational skills
  • Ability to orient self/learn about the hospital site and services provided
  • Comprehensive knowledge of common security policies and various related Acts, codes and legislation including the Criminal Code, the Trespass to Property Act, the Fire Code and WHMIS
  • Ability to react to and resolve emergency and crisis situations in a proper manner.
  • Demonstrated ability in preparing and maintaining clear, concise, and legible security reports and detailed records
  • Highly developed interpersonal and customer-service skills, including conflict resolution, problem-solving, decision making, situational assessment and communication skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
