Mott MacDonald's Calgary office has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team.
Reporting to the mechanical discipline lead, y ou will contribute to a variety of projects locally as well as across Canada and around the world, with a focus on transportation projects. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer with Mott MacDonald, your day will include:
- Managing the delivery of assigned projects.
- Working and liaising with associated engineering disciplines as part of delivering projects.
- Managing internal and external stakeholders, ensuring client satisfaction and pursuing and promoting opportunities with existing as well as prospective clients.
- Developing engineering from a feasibility stage to completion, and articulation to the support team
- Development of resilient and redundant services infrastructure solutions
- Working as part of a multi-discipline team to deliver projects
- Working with the leadership team to grow the Mechanical team in Calgary and the overall foot print of the business
- Co-ordinating mechanical design with architectural and other disciplines
- Carrying out design and calculation work using relevant industry software.
- Developing, maintaining and monitoring programs for scheduling and reporting on deliverables across specific projects.
- Maximizing profitability of projects, monitoring against budget, reacting and anticipating potential problems and communicating in line with client expectations.
- Demonstrating technical expertise, providing in depth knowledge and leadership whilst proactively coaching and developing more junior team members.
- Providing expert engineering input into design; and evaluation of built environment proposals.
The education, skills and experience to truly excel in this role will include:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
- 15 years of mechanical design experience that includes transit sector projects. People with less than 15 years of experience will still be considered.
- Experience in various methods of project delivery, such as, Design-Build, Design-Bid-Build, Progressive Design-Build, Construction Management at Risk, etc.
- P.Eng. license, or eligibility for licensing as a P.Eng. in the Province of Alberta is required.
- In depth knowledge of design specifications/requirements of transit authorities
- Excellent understanding of BIM/VDC, preferably with experience in a BIM tool
- Understanding of all engineering disciplines and (mechanical / communications / electrical / structure) with expertise in mechanical
- Experience in the design of plumbing and drainage systems
- The design and/or planning and/or design of large-scale public buildings.
- Skills in sustainability and green initiatives, with a demonstrated track record
- A consultative approach to dealing with clients.
- A proven record in business development with established connections with owners, end users and Architects.
- Ability to analyze information and offer solutions to clients that exceed expectations.
- Positive 'can-do' attitude, to working with colleagues and clients.
- Experience of working within an Integrated Management Systems environment.
- Proficient in the use of typical office packages such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project and other comparable programs including the desire to utilize the full capabilities of Office365.
- Proficient in energy modeling software such as IESVE, Trace and HAPP
- A proven record in optimizing designs using automation and standardization.
- Adaptable to working within different client environments/cultures.
- Willing and able to travel within Canada and internationally as required to support projects.
