About Us:
Transitions, Leadership, and Enrichment (TLE) supports incoming students through a variety of different avenues, including the suite of summer transition programs titled Western Launch.
The goal of Western Launch is to assist first year students with their transition to the university environment and culture.
This includes helping first year students select and register in first-year courses, learn more about services at Western, explore our campus, and meet members of our community before they begin school in September.
New Student Experience Leaders will assist with a variety of summer programs.Responsibilities:
As a New Student Experience Leader, you will be at the forefront of welcoming and guiding incoming students through various Western Launch programs aimed at enhancing their transition into university life.

Key Responsibilities:
- Greet, welcome and register participants upon arrival to oncampus programming
- Facilitate community building with an assigned groups of student participants
- Deliver large group presentations and discussions with students and guests
- Assist students with course selection, scheduling of their classes and helping to navigate student center
- Lead tours of the campus and select residences
- Provide a friendly and supportive environment for students and guests who attend
- Connect students with various student organizations/communities on campus
- Lend advice and share experiences to help students feel comfortable during this transition
- Serve as wellrounded role models for incoming students
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment that helps participants develop a sense of belonging in the Western community
- Display an energetic and enthusiastic attitude
- Provide phone and electronic support for incoming students
- Other duties as assigned
- Enthusiastic and involved member of the Western community
- Able to work as part of a team and communicate effectively
- Knowledgeable about supports and services available to students at Western
- Willingness to learn and expand knowledge of campus resources
- Demonstrated experience facilitating small group discussions
- Experience working with high needs groups, effectively managing conflict with a customer service focus
- Knowledge of course registration and degree requirements
- Ability to take direction and provide leadership accordingly
- Open to receiving coaching in the area of public speaking
- Ability to demonstrate professional and appropriate relationships with students, parents and other staff members during training and the role
- Ability to build relationships with campus partners and integrate information from different campus departments to connect first year students and resources
- Competency with social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram)
Position Requirements:
- Minimum 70% academic average (65% in Engineering)
- Western undergraduate or graduate student, main campus only
- Completed or in the process of finishing at least 5 full courses (or equivalent) at Western and returning for fall 202
- Attend interviews when required
- Working on campus in London from May to August
- Demonstrated leadership skills and knowledge about programs and services at Western
- Ability to speak Cantonese and/or Mandarin would be an asset
Term Length:
Full-Time Summer Position, May - August 2024 (Hours vary; Contract End Date September 9, 2024)
Time Commitment:
New Student Experience Leaders will be employed 14 weeks (depending on program requirements). During this time, leaders will work up to hours per day between the hours of 8:30am and 5:00pm. Some weekends and evenings will be required.
Hours will average 30 per week from Monday June 3rd through Friday August 16. Hours will average 10 per week for August 19 through August 30. Some additional, optional hours may be available during Orientation Week.
