Position description

EAL instructor position for the MtA-NBCC Fall Pathway Program (FPP) – fall 2024

FPP Description: The English Pathway Program launched in 2021 and is offered in partnership by both Mount Allison University and the New Brunswick Community College. It is designed to support academically qualified students from non-English backgrounds in their transition to full-time study at both institutions. The FPP features a blend of level-specific academic English and academic skills courses, as well as a foundational and introductory set of co-curricular modules and activities to introduce international students to the history, culture, and geography of Atlantic Canada. Students will transition from the FPP to full-time, unconditional study at their designated institution (either Mount Allison or NBCC) once they have successfully completed the FPP program requirements in order to meet their respective institution's language requirements for unconditional admission starting in January. While a foundational curriculum and activity suggestions are provided for the 12 weeks of the program, the Instructor will be responsible for preparing lessons and course materials, grading assignments, facilitating student engagement and participation, and assessing students' progress in the program in order to advise Mount Allison and NBCC about students' eligibility to progress into full-time studies before the start of classes in January.

Reporting to the International Pathway Program Manager, the FPP instructor will teach classes 4 hours per day for a total of 20 hours per week. All classes for the 2024 FPP will be delivered online.

Qualifications/skills

Qualifications and Details:

The successful candidate for the above position will have a master's degree, or equivalent experience, in English, Education, Linguistics, TESOL, or EAL teaching/learning. In addition, experience with EAL teaching experience is required. Experience working with EAL students in a university setting and within a diverse student population is an asset. They will also have excellent interpersonal, communication, and technology skills in order to successfully engage and support students learning remotely.
