Under the general direction of the Director, Teaching Labs, the incumbent is responsible for coordinating and supporting the day-to-day operations as required for lab activities within the DAAC (DSP / Communication / Advanced Analog) lab and other ECE undergraduate laboratories as assigned. The incumbent ensures that the teaching labs are set up with the appropriate instrumentation, equipment and software required by each course, so that students can successfully complete their assigned course work. In addition, the incumbent ensures that all laboratory computers, equipment and instrumentation are maintained in good working order and that teaching assistants (TAs) and graduate and undergraduate students are provided proper instructions on their correct operation. Prior to and during the laboratory experimental sessions, the incumbent interacts with TAs and graduate and undergraduate students as necessary to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the laboratory and ensure a high-quality academic experience for the students.


Working with the Course Instructor(s), the incumbent researches, designs, develops and implements new experiments, activities, demonstrations, and simulations (including the revitalization of existing lab exercises) for the undergraduate program.

In addition, the incumbent makes minor purchases upon receiving approval.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing plans and process improvements for lab/workshop activities.
  • Preparing, assembling and settingup material, equipment and supplies according to the needs of the facility
  • Providing detailed explanations and demonstrating procedures to students and/or employees on experiment set ups and lab techniques
  • Analyzing and recommending suitable materials and methods of approaching repair and/or lab work, modifying experimental processes and implementing more efficient ways to conduct experiments
  • Disseminating information regarding policies and guidelines to facilities users
  • Coordinating the installation and implementation of new equipment, and troubleshooting routine equipment repairs
  • Determining technical requirements for repair and maintenance projects
  • Providing safety training and ensuring adherence to safety procedures and standards

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three years related experience working in a laboratory setting; preferably within a university setting
  • Must have first aid and CPR training
  • Must have safety training on electrical equipment
  • Experience in hardware and software debugging
  • Experience in PCB design and soldering, Knowledge and familiarity with Schematic and PCB design tools such as Altium, as well as its production process
  • Experience instruments and diagnostic test equipment, including power supplies, multimeters, signal generators, oscilloscopes, mixedsignal oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers
  • Familiarity and knowledge with commercially available sensor modules and their interfacing
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to read and comprehend work instructions, engineering drawings, schematics and diagrams
  • Knowledge and familiarity with engineering principles, analog and digital circuits, logic gates, microprocessors, memory and I/O, their interconnection and interfacing using current protocols
  • Knowledge and familiarity with C/C++, and ability to use programming environments for DSPs, microprocessors, and microcontrollers such as Code Composer Studio
  • Knowledge and familiarity with network communication protocols, Network hardware configuration and setup
  • Knowledge and familiarity with soldering techniques and ability to assemble and rework / repair electronic devices
  • Knowledge and ability to use hand tools and equipment (drills, saws, etc.) and drill press
