Job Summary


This role is to develop and maintain a Proprietary Brands (Private Brands) quality management system, regulatory standards and to manage product recalls for all brands.

This role will report to the Vice President, Proprietary Brands.

Essential

Responsibilities:

  • Establish, document, and implement a riskbased qualification and verification program across all supply channels. Ensure suppliers and comanufacturers/copackers have robust programs and systems in place to ensure food safety and quality of products.
  • Manage the supplier and component risk assessment process to identify and prioritize supplier verification requirements based on performance, product risk and quality/food safety system document review.
  • Clearly understanding, monitoring, and communicating critical requirements and changes within the regulatory environments in which Pet Valu operates and ensuring all tracking and reporting requirements are maintained for business continuity.
  • Improve documentation requirements and continuously review relevancy and compliance of regulatory expectations. Ensure Pet Valu expectations are consistent with regulatory bodies requirements.
  • Review new products for regulatory and claims insights.
  • Manage requirements for new and continuing certification of our products.
  • Ensure the continuity of supplier quality agreements and specifications with customer expectations.
  • Lead the efficient collection, exchange, and reconciliation of supplier compliance records.
  • Proactively work & develop new and improved cross functional business processes and relationships to support the endtoend supply chain quality program for raw materials, ingredients, copacked products, and packaging.
  • Partner with Product Development team and Sourcing Manager to ensure clear quality protocols and processes are established to support onboarding new suppliers, product trials, first and ongoing Pet Valu production at supply partners.
Continuous Improvement

  • Lead quality continuous improvement activities through the transformation and analysis of data and key performance indicators.
  • Manage a process for sharing consumer and customer complaint incidence to supply partners. Ensure the management of a strong supplier corrective action program.
  • Provide regular and structured feedback to stakeholders on product and supplier performance (complaints, nonconformance etc.).
Customer Service

  • Acts as the voice of the customer with a customercentric mindset.
  • Manage product recall process for national brand and private brand products.
Skills, Experience, Education, Certifications

  • Relevant education
  • 57 years' experience working in a quality/food safety role.
  • Indepth knowledge and proven compliance and audit experience of with relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Pet industry and/or retail experience a plus.
  • Experience within a CPG environment is considered an asset.
  • Experience leading change management activities of varying scope and type.
  • Demonstrates consultative and collaborative mindset and approach.
  • Demonstrates confident leadership, sound judgement and ability to resolve problems in a timely manner utilizing strong decisionmaking skills to achieve the appropriate result.
  • Ability to synthesize information from a variety of sources.
  • Ability to simultaneously handle multiple assignments and prioritize work assignments as needed to meet deadlines and fulfill the demands of the company's highenergy environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience with lean management principles and/or other continuous improvement tools.
  • Demonstrate a practical approach and a commitment to achieving excellence in compliance and risk management.
