JOB SUMMARY:

The Environmental Attendant is responsible to ensure that standards of cleanliness are achieved and maintained on a consistent basis to provide the highest level of resident satisfaction, within established time limitations. The Environmental Attendant will perform thorough cleaning and sanitation of residents' suites, routine cleaning and scheduled maintenance cleaning of hallways, entrances and exits, window cleaning, vertical and horizontal surfaces as required. The Environmental Attendant should demonstrate constant awareness of safety hazards and report to the Environmental Services Manager for maintaining safety standards. Treats Residents with dignity and demonstrates an attitude of caring.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Vacuums, dry mop and wet mops all floors.
  2. Cleans bathroom, commodes, and other equipment as assigned.
  3. Performs daily, routine and terminal cleaning of resident rooms including disinfecting beds and turning/flipping mattresses, cleaning of windows and blinds/curtains.
  4. Ensures housekeeping equipment is clean and reports any equipment needing repair to Housekeeping Supervisor and/or Maintenance.
  5. Understand and follows PPSL Infection Prevention and Control policies and procedures and Universal Precautions in handling body fluids.
  6. Identifies and reports risks to ensure the safety of Residents, Visitors and Staff.
  7. Responsible for cleaning job duties and signing off on when work is completed as per site procedures.
  8. Participates in education sessions and Staff meetings.
  9. Maintains a safe environment for Residents, significant others and staff by adhering to established safety policies, standards and procedures including emergency procedures and infection control guidelines.
  10. Reports unsafe conditions and malfunctioning equipment to the Maintenance Staff via a Work Order.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of facility cleaning experience an asset. Clear criminal record security clearance with Vulnerable Sector included (no more than 6 months old). Must be physically fit and in general good health with the ability to push, pull and lift a minimum of 25 lbs and be able to be on your feet for long periods of time. Must be able to work in confined spaces. Appropriately dressed. Effective written and oral communication skills in the English language. Must be able to work independently, and as part of the interdisciplinary team.

HEALTH AND SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible to read, understand and comply with PPSL's and provincially-mandated Occupational Health and Safety policies and safe work practices. Involved in all aspects of the Health and Safety Program including: Uses safe work procedures, Promotes health and safety policy and awareness, Makes safety suggestions. Reads OHS minutes posted. Responsible to take every reasonable precaution to protect the safety of residents, self, other workers and the general public. Reports any near miss, injury, accident or equipment damage to supervisor immediately and completes required reports. Corrects and/or reports unsafe conditions. Sets a good example.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Job requires a significant amount of lifting, bending, walking, sitting and standing. Lifting 50-lbs. maximum. More frequent lifting of 20 lbs. or less. A regular day may involve four (4) hours of walking and frequent bending or crouching.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to organize work. Ability to operate related equipment. Ability to work in teams collaboratively and communicate with others in a respectful manner. Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
