Utility Maintenance Serviceperson

WHAT THE OPPORTUNITY IS

Festival Hydro is seeking a Utility Maintenance Serviceperson to locate underground hydro cables using maps and radio detection equipment. Responsibilities include marking locations with paint and flags, creating detailed drawings of located areas, and using a computerized work order system. The role involves removing and installing single-phase residential meters, collecting and submitting field data for updates, installing and removing pad-mount transformer markers, and inspecting distribution system equipment. Additional duties include performing miscellaneous maintenance tasks, providing occasional relief for the Stockkeeper, and accurately completing all required documentation. The position requires the ability to meet deadlines and work both independently and as part of a team.

This role will require an organized individual, with a collaborative approach and strong communication skills in order to successfully coordinate, interact with employees and contractors.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

Responsibilities include (but may not be limited to):

  • Locate underground hydro cables, referencing maps and using radio detection equipment provided to keep Festival Hydro plant free from damage during excavating procedures. Locate completion includes, but is not limited to, marking the ground with paint and flags, and creating hand sketched or computer rendered drawings of the located area. You will be required to use a computerized work order/reporting system for dispatch of these duties. This work requires you to meet deadlines and to work both independently and/or with other team members.
  • Remove and install single phase residential meters for planned changes or disconnects for non-pay.
  • Collect field data on maps and drawings with "as found" information and submit to Engineering for updates.
  • Install and remove pad-mount transformer markers and inspection of in-service distribution system equipment.
  • Miscellaneous maintenance duties, including but not limited to snow clearing, minor building repairs and checks, vehicle cleaning and fuel monitoring.
  • Occasional relief duties for Stockkeeper.
  • Neatly and accurately complete all required documentation.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

WHAT SKILLS & EXPERIENCE YOU'LL BRING

  • Demonstrated superior health, safety, and environmental responsibility.
  • Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Class G Ontario Drivers' License with a clean abstract.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of pertinent industry regulations and rules, policies, and procedures, as well as industry best practices such as the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, Electrical Utility Safety Rules, Ontario Regulation 22/04, Ministry of Transportation Book 7 and Utility Work Protection Code.
  • Possess and maintain a level of physical fitness essential to do the work including the ability to work confidently at heights and underground, and the willingness and ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
  • Excellent verbal and written English language communication skills, including reading and understanding operating maps and construction drawings.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills, a good work ethic with a positive approach to work and coworkers; energetic and motivated with an excellent attendance records.
  • The ideal candidate will be DPT Certified or willing to obtain DPT certificate.
