Full-time, Contract (1 Year)


The role involves conducting Functional Low Vision Assessments and utilizing assessment tools to evaluate various visual functions, work history, educational background, technology usage, quality of life, and psychosocial aspects related to vision impairment and disability. Additionally, the Specialist conducts research on new optical aids and advancements in eye care.

  • Attends professional development sessions and conferences as necessary.
  • Delivers public speaking seminars and workshops on low vision services to community agencies, health care professionals, and other groups.
  • Interprets medical data and performs administrative tasks such as data input and client documentation.

The Specialist will also establish relationships with community-based rehabilitation teams, schools, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to promote vision health and awareness.

  • Facilitates public education and in-service training to raise awareness about vision-related matters.
  • Assists in training, placing, and supervising volunteers and students.

Moreover, staying updated on the latest electronic travel aids and advancements in Orientation and mobility is a key responsibility.

  • Provides leadership by educating and advocating for vision health awareness.
  • Offers mentorship and supervision to apprentice staff, volunteers, students, and community partners.
  • Must have knowledge about disabilities across all life stages, from children to seniors.
  • All low vision service providers must meet the requirements of the VLRC National Vision Rehabilitation Training Program.
  • Applicants must hold a post-secondary degree in health care or vision-related fields, with proficiency in relevant computer applications. Knowledge of French is beneficial.

Service delivery will involve office centers, homes, and community visits, requiring flexibility in working hours.
