The Helix Data Engineering team plays a crucial role in Helix's mission to furnish a top-notch clinico-genomics research dataset for our partners to execute cutting-edge genomic studies and provide operational insights back to health systems. Collaborating closely with our Research, Bioinformatics, and Engineering teams, we are tasked with maintaining infrastructure to facilitate data analyses and creating new tools to support our scientists and analysts.

As a Staff Genomics Data Engineer, you will:

  • Evaluate and innovate new approaches to enhance our data pipelines and incorporate them into our research workflows.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field with over 5 years of experience; or PhD with more than 2 years of experience.
  • Proven track record in data engineering, with a particular preference for experience in the genomics life sciences/pharmaceutical sector.
  • Proficient in Python, SQL, Java, Scala, or similar programming languages.
  • Strong expertise in ETL pipelines, automation, and workflow management tools like Airflow, AWS Glue, AWS Step Functions, and CI/CD.
  • Adaptable in a dynamic startup environment where priorities may change rapidly.
  • Ability to handle various data sources; knowledgeable in database design, data manipulation, and data quality techniques.
  • Experience with clinical data such as EHR, FHIR, HL7, and/or claims data.
  • Demonstrated willingness to share knowledge with others and learn new methodologies.

The initial salary will be determined based on job-related criteria, including location, experience, training, education, and skill level. First 30 days:

During this period, you will learn the Helix methods, complete training and onboarding specific to your role, and get introduced to your team and key stakeholders. You will also gain a deeper insight into our customers, products, our impact on communities, and how to excel at Helix through participation in Helix U.

Day 1-7:

You will contribute to projects, immerse yourself in team and company processes, and enhance your understanding of Helix's products, services, and capabilities.

Day 8-15:

You will work with your manager to establish your OKRs, take ownership of projects and initiatives within your team, and start demonstrating your impact on Helix's mission.
