POSITION
Manager, Community Engagement and Stakeholder Relations

THE ROLE


Under One Sky Friendship Centre is searching for a Manager that will be responsible for nurturing new and existing relationships with community partners and stakeholders.

This position will support the vision of Under One Sky's new Friendship Centre by working with partners to develop programming priorities for the new centre expected to open in 2025.

By leveraging existing strengths, resources and knowledge of the organization, you will support the development of programming that is grounded in Indigenous principles of wellbeing and the spirit of reconciliation.

You are known as a collaborator, a relationship builder, and a leader. You are motivated by the stories of this community, our history and the land.


If successful, you will join a team that is committed to developing an inclusive, engaging, and dynamic new space offering culturally-informed programs and events for Indigenous and non-Indigenous visitors.

You are passionate about advocating for and with Indigenous peoples. You want to make an impact on the daily lives of thousands of Indigenous peoples in the region.

You will use your experience in community engagement, relationship management, program development and team building to support the development of the Awitgati Longhouse & Cultural Centre.

You will develop and nurture the relationships and community ties that will ensure the new centre serves the community in the best possible way.


In this role you will mix it up between community engagement and outreach, presenting to community meetings, government agencies, and collaborating with a team of high-performing staff.

As the Manager, and representative for Under One Sky, you:

  • Will be a respected leader in the Indigenous community and beyond.
  • Will be a vocal advocate for Indigenous knowledge, priorities, and programming.
  • Will embrace change and innovation in service delivery.
  • Are equally adept at working with community, cultivating relationships, and working with allies.
  • Will play a prominent role in engaging Indigenous organizations and community stakeholders for the project.
  • Will demonstrate an inclusive, collaborative approach.
  • Will build relationships with groups and representatives from diverse backgrounds, both Indigenous and nonIndigenous
Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that Indigenous worldviews form the foundation for all activities.
  • Identify partnership opportunities to support future program initiatives.
  • Collaborate with leadership, the Board of Directors, staff, Elders, youth, and community stakeholders to communicate, refine and implement the vision for the Awitgati Longhouse & Cultural Centre and its future offerings.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with community organizations and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support future program development that reflects the needs, resources and aspirations of community in collaboration with allies, service partners, and staff.

REQUIREMENTS

You have demonstrated experience in:

  • Urban Indigenous initiatives
  • Collaborative relationship development
  • Leadership and inspiring teams
  • Fostering relationships and partnerships with nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and Indigenous communities

Your attributes:

  • Relevant postsecondary degree, or equivalent experience
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
  • Clear understanding of business operations, including financial management
  • Experience working in the nonprofit sector
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to maintain and build strong relationships
  • Ability to support the development of Indigenous programs
  • Ability and willingness to participate in meetings and events outside of working hours to meet the needs of community and the Centre
  • Commitment to transparency, community, good governance, and Indigenous values
  • Commitment to outcomes and high standards

COMPENSATION
The Manager is a full-time position. The position offers an annual competitive remuneration to commensurate with experience.

The Centre

Under One Sky will begin construction of a new cultural centre within the year.

The mission of the Awitgati Longhouse & Cultural Centre is to provide the urban Indigenous community with a place to come together and be well.

The centre is an iconic $18.6M net-zero facility that is designed with Mi'kmaq and Wolastoqey values embedded throughout. Awitgati measures 21,000 sq ft and when complete will offer over 40 programs across its spaces
